Good move

Yates and to a lesser extent Renfree were so bad that it was hampering the coaches ability to evaluate talent and run smooth practices. So this is not just about what if Ryan gets hurt but about the ability to have QB's other than Ryan in practice that are good enough to have solid practices and allow offensive talent to be properly evaluated.

Hardly a waste, Rex should at least be able to perform better in the next two pre season games and manage practices better than Yates and Renfree. This will allow the coaches to better evaulate offensive talent cause Yates and renfree can;t go a single drive without a turnover and from OTA's as soon as they step in practices look horrible.

It is chump change against the cap and we are a team that was going to roll over cap money anyway.

What an unbelievable waste of 1 million dollars. Should have just taken that money placed it in a cannon and fired it into the stands. At least you would build good will with the fans. You're certainly not going to be building good will if this bum ever has to play a meaningful down.

there is what? maybe 5 back-ups in the NFL that are actually capable of helping win a game (as opposed to just being a care-taker, try not to lose it).

All you are looking for w/ a back-up is to try and eek out 1-2 wins while your starter is out - if Matt Ryan is out for more than 3-4 games, the whole season is lost anyway.

You say signing Grossman is a "waste" of $1million dollars. Is it a waste if Grossman is able to steer the ship ENOUGH to eek out 1 win in 3 games or 2 wins in 4 games - IF - the Falcons make the playoffs and would not have made the playoffs with Yates/Renfree at the helm?

I'm thinking the answer to that question would be "YES" - an entire NFL season would be saved for the paltry cost of $1mm. Of course keep in mind the Falcons are probably paying TJ Yates the same now anyway - so it would be basically a WASH.

Remind me. Where were Renfree's turnovers again?
