Some Things I Noticed So Far

1. Paul Worrilow: As a guy that was a critic of Worrilow, Its just the preseason but im eating a little crow because im becoming a fan... I think this system is perfect for him .. Im getting a chance to see this guys true speed with the system as a pass rush infront of him.

2.Babs: If you use Babs the right way (as a sub package guy) .. The man can still make plays.

3.Ricardo Allen: I like what i see so far... Some had concerns about his tackling because of his size ... Dude has been an very aggressive tackler.

4. Adrian Clayborn: As long as this dude stays healthy ... We will see really good things ... H is not Michael Bennett but he has a similar skillset and Quinn will develop that ... Working with Chuck Smith and the guy is only 27 years old ... He can earn a long term contract if he stay healthy and keep his play up.

5.Maponga: Another Chuck Smith guy ... The guy has def improved and he is looking like he can def contribute in our rotation.

6. Vic Beasley: Im watching espn and Brian Dawkins said h kept his eyes on Beasley vs Ferguson..Dawk just talked about how he liked what Beasley did and how he set up his team mates to make plays.. What i like is beasley showed the speed to power and a speed rush.. This dude can be special

Todd McShay

25. Vic Beasley, OLB, Clemson (89)

Instincts/recognition: 2
Take-on skills: 4
Range vs. run: 2
Tackling: 3
Third-down capabilities: 1
What he brings: He was an incredibly productive college player who then blew the doors off the combine with an outstanding workout. His first-step quickness as a pass-rusher is elite, he's a sideline-to-sideline run defender and he has playmaking instincts. But the complete lack of a power element to his game is a major concern.

7. O-Line: Its hard for me to really judge the run game when our top 2 runners are not playing ... Pass Pro looks good with the 1st team but i want to be able to judge the run game with our starting running backs behind the O-Line.

8.Kroy Biermann: I just dont see it

9. Lamar Holmes: Dude hasnt been on the field but i think his position on this team has improved because polumbus is not the guy.

10: The Defense: Again its just the preseason but the starting D has looked so far .. Also include that we was missing 3 important pieces (tru, hage, and willie mo)

The complete lack of power thing is a pi$$ take isn't it that rush on Fergusson looked like the dictionary description of Speed to Power to me.

Todd McShay please.

The get off which DQ has preached al off-season is really noticeable in Beasley Babs and Claybourn especially.I'm loving what I'm seeing upfront defensively.

I've even seen that get off from Jackson and Soliai. The thing I'm excited about is seeing every single DL get into the backfiled in very limited action. These guys have played a handful of series and I've seen them in the backfield more times than a couple of games combined last season.

And Worrilow looks like he's taking that next step.

That reminds me. I don't recall seeing much of Durant yesterday. He was blazing week 1. Did they let him rest because Brooks Reed came back? It wouldn't be a bad idea to keep him healthy for the season. My only concern with him is staying healthy.

Thus far, our front 7 has been disruptive as ****. I understand it's just Preseason, but when it's 1's vs 1's, I don't think I've seen a single hole in our defense. I can't wait for the regular season when we'll have Trufant, Willy Mo, and Hageman back.

TJax, Soliai, Clayborn, Beastly, Babs, Hageman, Durant, Reed, Worrilow, Trufant, Alford, Willy Mo, and Allen could be a special unit. I know that's 13 but Babs and Clayborn are going to get a ton of snaps with the way they're playing. My expectations are getting way too high, was hoping middle of the pack, but I'm starting to think top 5, and that is too unbelievable from where we were the last several years.

Beasley showed the ability to bull rush in college, you just didn't see him try it often. Was pleased to see him convert speed to power last night. Kids gonna be special

Clayborn plays with his hair on fire and his interior rush is skilled and fun to watch. Also Maponga's first step is phenomenal, like almost Beasley level

Glad someone else sees that on Maponga. I was watching his first step at Friday Night Lights and was like wtf where has he been.

I know Coleman and Devonta are out but the running game still a concern with this OL

If Ryan keeps completing 91% of his passes, I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

All joking aside, the way these guys are playing, Julio + Roddy + Hankerson + Tamme is going to be a devastating attack that will open up many opportunities for Freeman or Coleman. Our 3W1T set with how well Freeman catches out of the backfield has the potential to be the most prolific passing attack in the league. And the way our defense is playing, that can take the heart out of the opposing defense, playing on their heals and getting tired from how fast they have to get back in the game.

Unfortunately, Shanahan will likely get a HC job if that ends up being the case.

I hope we'll have a running game, but if our passing game and defense is half as good as they have looked, it won't matter that much. I'm not expecting Super Bowl in year 1. All of the starters look so comfortable in the system, I've seen enough. Just get to game 1 as healthy as possible.

The fact hing about it is, Beasley has such a quick first step that offensive linemen are usually rocking back to try and deal with it. This leaves them exposed to a bull rush, because they are off balance. Beasley doesn't have to have a ton of power, because the linemen is already in a bad position leverage wise to deal with the speed rush. That sack by Clayborne is totally caused by Beasley rocking his guy back into the QB, causing him to have step forward right into Clayborne.

Abraham was known as more of a speed rusher, but he could power rush also because guys had to set to deal with the speed rush and would be out of position. As long as Beasley can throw in the occasional bull rush to make his opponent respect that part of his game also, he will be very successful because o line will not know what is coming at them and when they guess wrong he will feast.

I want to see allen tested deep. I think the pressure is coming so fast the qbs don't have time or maybe the coverage is good. Still waiting to see it though. 55 is making me eat it as well. Not 71 though.

Thats the thing about the cover 3... Its meant to prevent deep plays so unless your pass rush sucks... Teams shouldnt beat you deep...

What ive been paying attention to is his positioning while playing deep and his closing speed coming from the deep part of the field to make tackles (and the angles he take)....

One thing i forgot to mention.. This goes with the Coaching... Man the stunts by the D-Line is looking good... Man in the past our stunts looked horrible and NEVER worked

very good call jbo...even in the vanilla D we're showing in preseason the stunts look WAAAAY more effective and harder to diagnose than anything I've seen in the past 3-4 years.
