32wood84white
When you look at the stats, you see Marriotta(sp?) only had 1 incompletion, which was the pick, vs the first team D. Tonight, Fitzpatrick only had 2 incompletions vs the first team. But then as your watching you see that Marriotta didn't threaten to score and Fitz never passed the 50 yard line. You see a run defense that has greatly improved and can get better and you see a pass rush that flat out puts pressure on the qb and is really forcing the play.Tonight we got our first look at Reed and we still have an extremely good corner in Tru to add to this defense. So how good can this defense really be?? Imo the sky is the limit, especially as Vic gets more playing time and improves over his rookie year.

32wood84white
Next week will tell all. Well alotI think your right. Barring any more injuries to any starters, we should have a full complement of starters on D, except for maybe Willy Mo. With Reed back tonight and Shede being hopefully cleared of the concussion, we only need to keep an eye on Tru to see if he will play. Francis York Morgan
Wait till the regular season against good teamsI can't believe these questions are being asked now...When our defense hasn't looked this consistently good even against bad teams, and they look this violent, I think some excitement is warranted. I'm having so much fun watching this team
raysnill1
we've played some crappy QBs but some stout O-lines. tonight we faced an ok RB too so if you look at what the starting D did to their O-line without Tru & Hageman, I'm more confident than I probably should be

It also means we're not giving up big plays (which was a huge issue last season). Gotta look at YPA too, and I'm willing to bet it's been pretty low against the first team D. RunningThePiszOuttaTheBall
They are definitely going to be improved over last year (boy I really went out on a limb there:) ) It's clear that we brought in 2 major players with Durant and Clayborn. And Beasley is looking good too. 3 very strong players that were not on the roster last year. That alone will make a huge difference. And a whole lot of players have clearly improved -- Hage and Babs especially. I would say we'll at least go from 30th-ish to 20th in the league. And maybe a whole lot better. Here's to hoping we stay healthy.
32wood84white
Wait till the regular season against good teamsI can't believe these questions are being asked now...It's being asked because every pre season we act as if the team playing flat is due to it not showing our hand and keeping everything basic. So yes this pre season when we are still keeping everything basic and we are still getting after it off of pure talent and skill, yes the question is warranted.Take the pure talent and put it with a Quinn led gameplane and I'm sure you can understand the excitement.Pre season or not, isn't this what good teams are supposed to do to inferior teams? There are severalBut we'll know if the defense is really "for real" once we play good teams. Not the Jets or TitansI'm confident Quinn can turn it into quite a force, but I'm unsure if he'll need another offseason or so to do it. shockerfalcon
I keep hearing bad team this bad team that but in the past we never dominated bad teams like the elite franchises do. We lost plenty of games to bad teams or had to come from behind against "bad" teams. Granted it's only been 2 quarters but when was the last time you saw the Falcons dominate opponents in every phase of the game in 2 consecutive games 1 being a road game at that? ZoneOne01
You can look at how they're playing and tell there is a difference. The way they attack and fly around the field is something completely new. You can remove the new scheme and still see characteristics that just wasn't there before. Even the tackling has improved. coastiemike
We've played two really bad teams. Let's wait to see what this defense can do against really good offenses first. The first three weeks of the season are going to be tough (and are the toughest stretch all season for us) if we survive that with a 2-1 record and the defense has good showings in all three, then yes, they are much improved. vel
Last year we let the Vikings put up 41 points without AP or Kyle Rudolph and a rookie QB. They didn't score 41 points in their next two games combined after us. We also lost to the Lions without Calvin Johnson, Eric Ebron and Reggie Bush. Sorry faceless, I get what you're saying, but we rarely dominated scrubs teams under the old regime like we should. We made scrubs look good and have career games from "too much respect". Tuggle'2
Might be too early to really claim we're all that, but it isn't too early to get freaking excited over what we've seen. We just look and feel like a entirely new team. It is amazing.
ryanadonis
When you see the defense be on the same page and actually attack the QB, I would say its a HUGE improvement over the ####### we had for years.

Clark Kent™
Its not too early to see that there will be improvement, but you can't logically expect us to dominate in the regular season like our starters have for the first quarters of these 2 preseason games. Everyone knows that there isn't much game planning. I do expect the defense to be much better than last year though. Scheme or no scheme, it is significant when you see guys beating other guys like Hage, Babs, Clayborn, Beasley, etc..
