Thursday 8/20 Practice Report

Moore, Konz, Hageman won't play Fri. DQ did not rule out Tru, but pretty sure he and Antone won't play.

Freeman, Tevin, Reed essentially game time decisions. I expect them to play barring any crazy soreness from today's very short practice.

William Moore was out at practice today with sleeve protecting left calf.

Moore didn't practice by the way. Just watched

Konz is likely to be toast. He was already behind the 8-ball when this off-season began because the "safe haven" of being Dimitroff's boy from 2nd round pick in 2012 has now worn-off. Quinn has final say on the 53-man roster and Konz has done nothing in off-season to distinguish himself and he has no good tape - now he's hurt.

Feel bad for Konz. This was his last chance and now injuries will probably be the last nail in his coffin. Oh well though.

Personally I hope Free and Teco don't play friday. Give them one more week, just to be safe.

why should you feel bad for Konz? He has had several chances and has not taken advantage of them - he came into the NFL unprepared and has had 3 seasons to raise the bar to meet the standard - yet he has failed every time.

What a disappointment in Konz. He had such a great college career at Wisconsin. It just goes to show that college greatness doesn't always translate to the pros.

the two biggest busts out of that program are Rich Carimi and Peter Konz. Dimitroff said if he would not have traded up for Julio he would have taken Carimi w/ 1st round pick. Then we take Dez Southward. Maybe we should stop drafting Wisconsin players, LOL - there have been good ones but we don't seem to take the right ones.

Maybe it was the guards playing next to him that made him look good in college? either way he is a huge whiff for Dimitroff, can't wait to see him hit the waiver wire

Maybe he just didn't work out like thousands of other players before and after him?

"Konz is the premier center in this year's draft, and his selection will likely be solely based off team needs towards the end of the first round. He has a massive frame for the center position but has impressive knee bend, which allows him to play the position effectively. He made all the calls at the line and was the centerpiece of a dominant Wisconsin line loaded with NFL size and talent.

Konz looks natural sitting in his stance and swiveling his head to make all the line calls, which is impressive given his uncommon height. He is a smooth athlete who has demonstrated the ability to uncoil his hips into defenders and blow them back to create quick holes in the run game. Konz is a smart player who picks up stunts well and uses his strength and anchor to sit and stall any oncoming bull rushers. He is comfortable to work in fluid motion with his guards when pulling and sealing. He has all the tools to be an elite center for years to come.

Even though Konz has good flexibility, defenders will be able to out-leverage him at the point given his size. He can get stunned by quick bull rushes at the point and has a difficult time resetting his feet afterwards. While he is an effective short-area mover he looks limited and rigid when moving in space or downfield."

I'd think that's why when they drafted him they drafted him as a guard

To be fair, Gabe Carimi looked alright his rookie year before the Saints bountygated him and destroyed his career.

Konz was already playing on our 3rd string o-line before this injury. I think he had no chance even if he had stayed healthy.
