Guest Gritz
Would it be possible to bring back the hickory stick award?Seems like something Quinn could get fired up about.Seriously I've missed it since it was cancelledSupes won't do it again and I don't blame him...I can tell you that Flowery Branch never really embraced this thing. The players seemed to love it. They liked the portraits I did that went along with the award too. Brent Grimes told me a few months ago on Twitter that he still had his.I don't know why the team never really got behind this. Supes worked his tail off to make this happen...and as stated above, players dug it.Personally, I always thought that Flowery Branch didn't dig it that much because none of them came up with the idea...but it's dead now. It's not coming back.
B_Lo_Touchdowns
I still say brand it and make thunder sticks, Blank speaks the language of money.
mashburn*Fibonacci
I always see Quinn trying to get fans more active and more involved. He really wants a 12th man here. So I bet he would dig this. If you want to try it. You know I'm always there.

It was a really awesome thing! It felt like we were really a part of the team.A lot of people worked hard on this project, starting with the guy who originally had the idea and was the driving force behind it, Supes.Coach Quinn does seem the kind of guy who would be 110% behind the Hickory Stick. Heck, I could even see him hoisting the dang thing....

leahysailor
Maybe doing one with coach arriving in Atlanta with the hickory stick over his shoulder with his clothes tied in a rag on the end like a hobo! I'm sure someone on here could come up with a catchy line or two about the stick returning to Flowery Branch.
O D B
The Hickory Stick was not a part of the mythical "PROCESS" !Smitty couldn't have some ole "Hickory Stick," undermining the power of his "Note Pad" !! I was sick of Mike Smith and all his BS talk But let's be real here he had great years with the Falcons and I think he lost the team when they got rid of his coaches especially on the offense side. They totally abandon the run.
JDaveG
I'm so in favor of this. This was one of the coolest things I've ever seen and to see the admin just crap on it was terrible. I hope someone convinces Coach Quinn to bring it back.
youngbloodz
So why did Supes stop doing it now?
JDaveG
So why did Supes stop doing it now? Official word (from Supes) was that when we lost people wouldn't vote. So lack of board participation killed it off. Easy fix there is we do it quarterly, or twice a season, or whatever. But I'd love to see it done again. Supes™
Gritz just called me and alerted me to this thread, folks. He and BCEagle were my partners in crime with the HSA. It's nice to know that some folks want it back. It was a fan-driven award that originated from this board. To be sure, the front office liked it and the players loved it. We had it rolling for a while, and Jay Adams was putting up cool vids of quarterly award winners. But as has been stated, when the team didn't play well, we struggled to get votes. I understood that and it got to the point where the effort being put in to make it all happen wasn't worth the results when fan apathy took hold. That's why I pulled the plug on the HSA.However, this is not to say that it's dead. I still have the stick and Gritz is insisting that this is something coach Quinn would embrace. Perhaps we can take another look at it, y'all, with a fresh approach. Weekly awards are out of the question. BCEagle came up with the quarterly idea and that was better but still had flaws because if we lost the last game of a quarter, voting turn-out was very poor. So maybe twice a season? Once at the half-way point and once again at seasons end. Better yet, maybe just one seasonal award at seasons end, but that has problems too. As soon as a season is over, the players clean out their lockers and go home, win or lose. There would be no one to present the award to.I'll be thinking on it and considering any creative ideas anyone may have concerning "getting the band back together", but I couldn't promise anything at this point. Porkins
Why not award only after wins? Apathy for voting on such an award after a loss is easy to fathom.

Pretty sure I did before, even in a loss there pretty much is always SOMEONE who played as hard as he could. But I do realize we have a pretty good core of posters here who participate regularly, and tons more who only show up when something happens they don't like........ Guest Gritz
As I said to Supes when we were talking about it earlier I wasn't even thinking about the Hickory Stick Award until I saw this thread this morning...it resonated with me because as someone above mentioned, Coach Quinn would love this.Coming from Seattle with their 12th man history? You know Quinn would be jacked up and supportive of anything that spelled out greater fan participation.I just believe it's an idea and concept that needs to be revived to celebrate the new beginning. Supes™
Personally, I think a NEW TEAM POSTER would mean more than any reconstituting of the HSA to show our fan support and excitement.

RunningThePiszOuttaTheBall
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes ... please! I love the Hickory Stick Award!I will commit come he11 or high water, to voting every week. If I get hit by a car and put in a coma, I'll make sure my living will states that a designated person must vote on my behalf until I regain consciousness.I completely understand the frustrations and issues, but if this award could be revived I'd be forever grateful. Guest Gritz
I think it will be well received by a guy like "Q" ! He fits the mode of a HC that don't mind encouraging Fan participation. It's Time.....THAT'S what I'm talking about....Coming from Seattle and their whole 12th man thing?Quinn would eat this UP!
