MAD597
Overall this was a really clean and well played Pre Season game 1. Add in the fact we have new schemes and coaches and alot of new players it is pretty amazing. We looked ALOT more sloppy in early pre season the last several years. We also looked pretty good missing our 1st two RB's and our starting CB. We will be a very efficient, smart well run team if this keeps up. papachaz
the fact that Jerome Bolger was the head ref and we didn't really get all that many calls against us really surprised me. When the flag went out on the first kickoff, and he showed up, I honestly was prepared for a long long night of many many flags against us

MAD597
Remember the last few years where our ST looked like absolute trash in the first few pre season games or our OL was a turnstile? The team just looked really together and knew WTF they were doing in all phases of the games. Running game needs work but with our first two RB's out it is no surprise. *NiteFalcon*
defense looked promising, running game did not. we really need to get coleman/freeman back
I love Julio
Saw a lot of encouraging things on the defensive side of the ball. Offensively, it was very difficult to watch Yates. He needs to go! Except for his poor play, I felt good about what I was seeing. As far as the running game goes, we definitely need to get Freeman and Coleman back. Hope Antone is going to be OK. I think no one in the league can get over him winning a playoff game and he just keeps getting chances
MAD597
Yates needs to go cause he completely brings the whole team down when playing. If Renfree had the same amount of time we'd have won by 30 and looked alot better

If Renfree had the same amount of time we'd have won by 30 and looked alot betteri think its too early to tell. renfree played 3rd string. lets see how he does against 2nd string. yates wasnt impressive but im not putting it all on him. the C's messed up and Hardy was the cause of the pick. i still think competition is wide wide openi think the main point is i dont think we would even be close in a game if ryan went down. neither guy would be able to hold onto a game for us and manage it in my opinion

Yates gets worse and worse and Renfree gets better and better. Ren looks like a Ryan Jr actually.
MAD597
Yates can't even drop back without tripping over is feet. He is a major clutz and not very accurate. Teams always start coming back on us in pre season as soon as he gets put in the game. Why kill our momentum in trying to build a team that knows how to win by keeping him around? Pre season w/l are not important but heck why handicap ourselves and make it hard on team chemistry?

Wasn't he quoted once how much he hates the Falcons? I honestly couldn't believe some of the calls that went for us when he's known to pretty much be against us. Dirtybird56
RB's looked awful but first team Oline looked coherent in both phases Edited August 15, 2015 by Dirtybird56
Game Blouses™
Loved what I saw from the 1s except for the lack of run game, can't wait for Freeman and Coleman to get back out there.I would like to see us sign Evan Mathis, the interior of the Oline needs to improve. I generally like to see how things will play out but imo we need to make a move here. Also cut Yates, it's borderline criminal Renfree isn't the #2. gHost83
"watching" Yates = vomiting uncontrollablydude was absolutely putrid to watch outside of 1 or 2 rollouts, he was the same last year... I think no one in the league can get over him winning a playoff game and he just keeps getting chancesMannnn, Yates was/is sooooo bad. Literally screaming at the TV to put Renfree in. Renfree comes in later and marches down the field 80 plus yards against the same d that Yates was struggling against. Renfree won the competition last year... He was 6 for 6 and only had an incompletion in the endzone that should of been caught honestly. Dude is accurate and composed. Man, he threw a strike when a de was closing in on him unblocked. That was really impressive to me. Showed guts.

Even Matty missed a few of those these last seasons.
ballfan
The biggest difference between Yates and Renfree was ball placement. Yates could not throw it to allow the receivers to keep running. Renfree did not force anyone to jump, dive, slide... it was night and day difference. Also very interesting to watch the competition at DB. White had moments looking very good and not so much. Collins and Southward, nothing special tonight. Great competition at Safety, LB and DL, so great to watch even the late few minutes of the game... Excited for the season. k-train
Naw, it is glaringly obvious that Renfree is pretty much years better than Yates. Yates gets worse and worse and Renfree gets better and better. Ren looks like a Ryan Jr actually. both of these guys played college ball right down the street from me. Yates is like a poor man's Delhomme. He'll have a solid outing one week, then the next week you're pulling your hair out in frustration trying to figure out how someone so sorry can make the team. He is VERY hot or cold. No consistency at all.Renfree got coached by the same gentleman both Mannings were coached by. They dig Cutcliff so much they come to Duke in the offseason to work out. IMO playing for Cutcliff at Duke helped Refree have a much better mental preparation than what Yates got at UNC.Yates never really had to actually lead UNC to victory, he just needed to not screw up too much to blow it. He's a game manager when he's at his best.Renfree is a guy who might actually be decent if he ever had to be the guy. I'm sure it'd take him a minute to get fully adjusted, but I could see him being solid once he was comfortable. He has the potential to be a Schaub or Cassell type backup IMO. jaschart
That was the first preseason game I ever watched that didn't let me down. Granted, the Titans sucked last year, so that has to be kept in mind, but Quinn's Falcons played just like he promised they would. The oline couldn't get it done when it came to the running game, but hopefully that will work itself out as they get better at the zbs. I don't believe Freeman or Coleman would have faired any better than Smith, as there was simply nowhere to run. If the oline can continue to passblock like they did last night, Ryan will silence the doubters (myself included) and become one of the elite. If the defense continues to play with the hunger they did last night, both first and second string, I will personally kiss Dan Quinn's feet. The defensive secondary still looks a little questionable, but the dline(s) were effing ravenous. If none of that happens, welcome to being an Atlanta Falcons fan. jfalconsp
Was impressed with LB Bradford last night, he looks to be good depth at the position. Wish we could've seen more of Tamme, but Julio had to hog all of Ryan's playing time.
