If Trufant Is Our Version Of "richard Shermon" In Our Defense......

I think schematically he'll have to stick to his side. We play zone, not man, and the WR is responsible for the deep half of the field. I don't see them moving the outside corners with the receivers.

I could be wrong -- I only know of this defense what I have read, which isn't much. But I think they keep them on one side of the field for a reason.

Really?.....I thought we'll play more man to man / bump and run coverage in this defense. Thats what prompted me to ask the question. But if our defense is going to be mostly zone? I can see him just staying to the one side.

It's a lot of press coverage, but it's very rarely man coverage. I've seen it described as "press zone" or "press bail," but the idea is you knock the receiver off his route, but you also keep the play in front of you because you're responsible for the whole deep third of the field. If he switches sides, you stay put, and if he crosses over the field, you take whoever comes into your zone and someone else picks him up. If he gets past you, he has the end zone in front of him.

I'm currently having a discussion on another board with a guy who claims that Xavier Rhodes is the best corner to come from 2013 class...I didn't watch much of Rhodes tbh, so I googled some and found this interesting post on reddit along the way https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/33ekpv/series_who_you_going_to_take_desmond_trufant_or/

Interesting, there's a Vikings fan who wants Tru over Xavier :D

Ahhhh, thanks for the input JDaveG. When I heard that we were going to more press and bump n' run, I assumed we're going to be more man vs zone in the secondary. So long as our corners actually JAM the receivers and the D-line gets pressure w/out blitzing all the time? Our defense will be alot better than the people may think

Well play more man as Quinn style of defense is cover 1/cover 3. But I don't think we will see tru shadow a wr. It's something that hasn't really happened before(I know it happened some last season) but they've never used tru as a truly shadow corner,

It's cover 3, which is zone, not man. We will play some man, but it will mostly be zone.
