The Potential On Offense?

When it comes to our team EVERYONE knew we had a pretty good offense even without a running game. I thought that whoever the HC was,(rex, quinn, bowles) all they had to do was focus on the defense knowing they have a good offense. Whoever the OC was that came in here knew they had a very good situation on their hands.

Kyle shannahan has never had this many weapons to wrk with, not WAS,TX,CLV. After the hire of quinn and shannahan i still have the same thought. Shanny said it himself, " having julio roddy and hank is like having a Rolls Royce". " Gaving a guy like ryan makes you want to call a pass ever down" The thing that has me excited is that we even added to an already STACKED offense with a legitimate TE who can run the seam in Tamme, we have TWO! yea two good backs in freeman and coleman. Added hankerson and FREAKMAGIC!!!

If this offense can come together and be balanced i dnt see how they cnt become a top 5 offense when its all said an done.

ZBS is a hard scheme to stop itself, throw in julio and roddy and hank! NO WAY you play 8 man boxes with thoes WRs.

Its gonna be a fun yr to watch this offense, if they can shore up their redzone efficiency, LOOK OUT NFL!!!

What do yall think, top 5 easy? #1?

I think the OL is extremely questionable just like last year and the year before. Yes the weapons are there, but time in the pocket may not be. If this team can't run the ball then it can't control the clock or sustain drives that allow the defense to rest. It's all on the OL, and right now they still stink.

being blanced will do two things.. take away the amount of time ryan has to drop back, which ultimately means less sacks just by that alone.

It will keep the defense honest and stop pinning their ears back to get to our QB.. that takes immensely amount of pressure off the oline.

I agree their still a question, but they will be more efficient just by running the ball

Our offense certainly has potential. Unfortunately it has potential to go in either direction. The offensive line is the biggest question mark, but you can ask questions almost everywhere. Freeman and especially Coleman are unproven and now are both hurt and missing time. Is Roddy still declining? Can Moeaki stay healthy? Is Tamme a legitimate threat at his age and sans Peyton? Can Julio stay healthy and if not, who carries the offense?

If it all comes together, we can have a dangerous offense. More than likely one or two of these things will go wrong and our potential won't be reached.

The offense has immense potential, and barring injuries we could be better than a top 5 offense. Last year we were ranked 12th overall on offense with Roddy missing games due to injury, no TE worth calling a TE, and Matt sitting out the 4th quarter of a Bucs blowout where we easily could've racked up another 30+ pts. But the offense has never been a concern of mine. We all know what Ryan and the WR can do when it comes down to crunch time. It's the defense that steals the offenses mojo, so if we get a half respectable D this year, the offense will feed off their momentum and sky rocket us into contention for a SB.

your right a lot of ?s, but some are starting to be answered..

Coaches and players are loving tamme, and noone xan seam to stop him at camp.

I truly believe in freeman, last yr he was our 3rd RB and still made more plays the jackson or quizz.

Him and coleman could be dangerous.

If julio goes down, im more confident this group of WRs can take pickup the slack. It would be a collective thing not one person. Nor would it be easy.

Baring injury i just dnt see this team being stopped unless they stop themselves

As weird as it might sound, I think I have more faith in our defensive line reaching the potential they have than our offense. That said, our defensive line reaching their potential along with our offense reaching most of their potential is a pretty darn good team.

Considering that our offense has been in top 10 every season, getting better only matters if it's in running the ball and scoring.

On the other hand defense has a 100% chance of improving and make a much larger impact on winning games.

Can you imagine what we would've ranked last year if Julio and Roddy hadn't dropped so many passes? dry.png

I'm still surprised at the number of people already claiming our run game is fixed. It seems Shanny's magical ZBS has saved the day, before the first preseason game. First of all, Shanny has never had a top 10 rushing offense without a 400+ yard rusher at QB. Ryan aint running for 400-800 yards folks. There aint a back on the roster with more than 65 carries.

Secondly, our Oline hasn't proven jack. It's been a hot, messy merry-go-round so far. Yesterday was the first day I heard reports of them having a decent practice. I think the Madden "look at all these weapons we have" syndrome is at play here. Settle down folks. At least get through the first preseason before you start counting paper championships. Good grief.

not counting "paper championships" im just trying to see how this offense can possibly look.

Even with ?s about the line the offense still produced last yr.

Im just being opportunistic about this yr.

If Matthews is healthy, and by all accounts he is, then there's enough pieces to put together an interior Oline. If Schreader doesn't improve, then he can be hidden by scheme and by having the TE/RB chipping. Saints got by for years by having a solid interior Oline and so-so tackles, falcon can do the same.

This offense could be scary good by midseason. Shahanan has made the run game work wherever he was and he's never had a QB like Ryan.

The offense's question mark is the offensive line. As we all know it starts and stops there. Can they stay healthy? Can they be effective as a whole? You also have to consider the lack of experience at the running back position as a concern. Inexperienced players are prone to mistakes and I would expect Coleman and Freeman to make their share of them.

I'll be a little bit of a contrarian on the o-line. I think if we go Matthews, Stone, Hawley, Chester, Schraeder, AND if they can all stay healthy, I think the o-line is going to be much improved. If they are, the sky is the limit.

Yeah, I would expect Asomoah to replace Stone or Chester, but yeah. That would be a pretty solid Oline, and if they played together for a season, might be the best Oline Ryan has had.

If by improving the Oline and changing the scheme, they give Ryan time to throw, he's going to kill it this year.

That's one thing I have in mind. The scheme change will solve a whole lot of o-line problems, and not just the ZBS side of it. The ZBS helps in establishing a ground game, but the West Coast Offense also helps in that you can run several plays out of the same formation and also run the same play out of several formations, so it keeps the defense off balance. That alone slows down a pass rush, and even with a horrible o-line and a one-dimensional scheme with no running game, Matt Ryan and those receivers put up some pretty good numbers.

Now imagine that without the problem of the defense knowing you have to pass because you can't run the ball.
