Injuries Concern Me

Recommended Posts

INJURIES are a key factor today in the NFL.

They will decide if you rise........or fall.

Today's NFL players spend 40-50 weeks of the year in the weight room, but most teams are riddled with hamstring injuries from Day 1 of training camp then ankles, ACL's and concussions once the season starts. It's as predictable as Donald Trump's ego. Never ending.

The game has actually come down to "what team is the last one standing", come January.

Injuries are what the NFL is all about today.

I'm not gonna down play it. We've had injuries to a lot of players already. The two that concern me the most are Brooks Reed and Coleman. They really haven't been on the field a lot and are key at their positions. I hope they are not injured most of the season.

+1 We as Falcon fans, should be concerned after the past few seasons.emot-tiphat.gif

2008 11-5 9 players on IR over the course of the season

2009 9-7 11 players on IR over the course of the season

2010 13-3 3 players on IR over the course of the season

2011 10-6 4 players on IR over the course of the season

2012 13-3 9 players on IR over the course of the season

2013 4-12 11 players on IR over the course of the season

2014 6-12 10 players on IR over the course of the season

I find 2010 and 2012 to be kind of opposite

in some of these cases the player did not go on IR until game 15 or 16

no distinction is made between starters and backups here

and it does not include a player missing 2/3 games and not going on IR

My dear Good man, to partake in American Football fandom requires the inevitable roll of a die and the immutable spin of a fortune wheel. Which star player shall taketh the fall this juncture? He whoever shines bright... he whoever shines dull? All men are created equal, therefore my Good brethren, as justly administered by He on High, injuries befall the entirety of mankind.

Football Outsiders has a measure that adjusts for position/player when determining injuries. It's called adjusted games lost and its broken down by offense and defense. Here's where we have ranked since 2010:

2010: 1st on offense, 6th on defense

2011: 11th on offense, 16th on defense

2012: 7th on offense, 21st on defense

2013: 27th on offense, 23rd on defense

2014: 30th on offense, 12th on defense

So the last two years have been pretty nasty. Given that injuries typically don't correlate from one season to the next, I would expect some regression to the mean.
