Aries2887
Was at Practice today. With both RBs have issues and sidelined. Tone Still doing what he does best, making people miss and scoring TD's. With both them sidelined. Tone is the next up and making things happen. Can't say he's not working hard and letting them take seats ahead of him. Depending on how bad these injuries are. Tone would be the clear starter, no doubt. Seams like Tone has a handle on this new scheme and doing great out there so we'll see. Hope the other injuries to Coleman and Freeman isn't bad. I really just want us to dominate this season and I don't mind what RB it is but I'm rooting for Tone.
JuranBolden21
Good update and post man.. im in columbia sc can't make it to camp.. "Tone" could be the most explosive player in the ENTIRE LEAGUE..
Atlfanstckndenver
Juan Bolden! One of my favs. I still remember him chasing down Deuce at the goal line forcing that fumble like it was yesterday.
Falkonator
If antone Smith becomes the starter,I'm gonna be concerned with how this offense will be,until Freeman and Coleman comeback we may be more pass heavy, hopefully terron ward can surpass antone. momak
I think if Tone starts he could easily average about 100 - 150 yards per game on 15 rushes and 5 catches per game.I hope he is working on his pass catching as he would be the ultimate blitz killer. If Ryan see the opposing team is blitzing then a quick pass to tone would be awesome to watch.

quotemokc
Tone aint the sort of rb you want running up the middle
hjerry
No, but I could see him doing well in the ZBS. Run lateral, one cut, hit the hole. Right up Antone's alley! He will most likely do well, but simply isn't suited to be the main back and get the bulk of the carries. He's best used as a situational back to keep defenses honest, since he doesn't really have great vision, or any real tackle breaking ability. He's also not really built to take a ton of hits, and can't block worth ****.I'll think he'll do well, but people need to temper their expectations on him. He's a complimentary guy. That would be hall of fame level and you expect a career back up speed back coming off a broken leg and hitting 30 to do that?

momak
Unfortunately I think a lot of people actually believe that.We can sit here and compare belief systems all day but the only way to find out is to put him out here and find out. When ever he was given the chance last year he did it. Can he do it again with more carries? We will see. Can he do better? We will see.
MasterBateser
Unfortunately I think a lot of people actually believe that. Some people play Madden way too much and think it translates over to real life. Don't get me wrong I buy Madden every year but considering I can trade two 70 ovr WR's and a 70 corner for Suh or Fairley I don't translate any Madden stuff to real life. Some people don't realize having a back average 4 to 5 yards a carry is great but if they play Madden they expect 10 freaking yards. **** if we had a back avg 10 yards we wouldn't need Ryan or Julio. momak
I get a feeling that if Smith was to start and have a huge game there would be alot of unhappy people around here.Smiths stats from last year were 366 yards on 36 touches with 5TDs. To bring up Smiths age as a reasons why he cant succeed misses an important point, he has barely been used through out his career and has easily 2 years good years left. Really? And yes those are good stats (some came in garbage time) but can he do it over the course of an entire season? Can he do it through a whole game? After all, when he gets into the open field, he's so fast, that he's gone in a second. He couldn't do it as the main guy however. There's simply too many times when he won't get in open space, and will get stifled by LBs. You can't get open every time. If you're the main guy, then defenses are more aware of you, and sometimes they'll get you. It's in situations like those, that you have to be able to dodge wannabe tacklers or break tackles, and that's just not his game

Not gonna happen.5-8 touches? Yeah he could do it.

kiwifalcon
Not a starter for me he's as advertised a gadget back that is best used in spacequick swing passes screens and alikeand get him the ball in space.
hjerry
Great post hjerryJust to add it would be a great thing if the defense was focusing in on Smith as that would allow us to get the ball to Julio, Roddy, Tamme, Hank, Hester, Hardy much easier I could see that, which is why I do want him used more, and used intelligently. I just can't see him as the guy however, for all the reasons that I listed. I'd be more inclined to base the running game on guys that can take a little more punishment, and can break more tackles. Then, put Antone out there enough, that defenses are aware of him, and have to be aware of him, whenever he's on the field.
