FentayeJones
Dan Quinn is changing the complacent culture of the recent Atlanta Falcons teams, one high-energy, high-intensity, hands-on practice at a time.I don’t know what went down in the final two years of the Mike Smith Era but it surely wasn’t good NFL football. Coach Quinn is like the 54th man on the Falcons’ Game Day roster with how hands-on he is as Head Coach. He has the energy of a career special teamer that lives for making the play on a kickoff.Dan Quinn, who is a big fan of boxing, brought in one of the best trainers of all time Freddie Roach to help in coaching hand placement and technique in Monday’s practice. Developing an Atlanta Falcons pass rush out of nothing is a huge point of emphasis for Dan Quinn and his coaching staff.Any interview of video clip I see of Dan Quinn, I feed of his energy and want to play for that man. People always say that they would run through a wall for a coach they respect. I feel that this year’s Atlanta Falcons team would run through barbed wire for Dan Quinn. He’s that charismatic of a leader. In an effort to combat inherited complacency, Quinn and Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff made dozens of roster moves to aid in the culture change. Atlanta still has a way to go as he had to say “if you’re walking, you wrong” at the beginning of Monday’s practice, the second day in pads. Dan Quinn doesn’t care if you’re tired. It’s almost like a Frank Kush, Arizona State level coaching intensity but in a more positive tone. When you’re head coach is doing a swim move and nearly ‘pops an Achilles” to prove a point, you have to respect that type of dedication to the craft of defensive line coaching. Someone outside of rookie OLB Vic Beasley will have a monster season for the Dirty Birds in the pass rush. Dan Quinn’s coaching style will click for a player that got lost in Mike Nolan’s confusing Nickel Base Defense from last year. The best part about it is that anybody could rise to the occasion in the Atlanta Falcons’ Front Seven.I’ve really liked how HC Dan Quinn delegates defensive responsibilities to both DC Richard Smith, and Assistant HC Raheem Morris. Quinn oversees the defensive line, Smith is great at developing and getting the most out of his linebackers, and Morris is a guru in the defensive backfield.Every practice is Championship Sunday for Dan Quinn. If you want to play like a champion, you have to practice like one every day you hit the field. The energy coming from Flowery Branch is second to none. Our Atlanta Falcons are bound to make some noise in the NFC this season. Until next time, Rise Up!http://atlallday.com/2015/08/05/dan-quinn-if-youre-walking-youre-wrong/

FulC0
Every year there are coaches (usually new) that bring boxers or wrestlers or MMA fighters or trainers into camp to show that they are "edgy" and creative thinkers. It's all smoke, not substance and makes Quinn seem gimmicky, imho.

Smith did the same thing so I doubt anyone here thinks of that as being a creative thinker.
FalconFanSince1970
At the end of the day, Glanville was a clown. I don't see anything in Dan Quinn that reminds me of Jerry Glanville..I don't know Joe. He was a clown in the media, but he was a good NFL football coach. He was our DB coach in 77 and 78. Integral part of the Gritz Blitz. Coached up some no named DBs on a team that set an NFL record in 77, as well as our first playoff team in 78. We promoted him to DC in 79. He fielded some decent Falcon defenses, including the 80 defense which was an as beater. The Oilers hired him as an HC in 86. After a 11-46 (.193) run their previous four seasons. He went 33-30 (.524) with a couple playoff wins. He took over our team in 1990 after Henning and Campbell's four year 18-44-1 (.286) run that ended maybe the worst Falcon era of all time. He went 27-37 (.422) and picked up a playoff win in 91 in the Sewer Dome in OT. Buddy gave a couple franchises a shot in the arm. I loved both of his Falcon stints. Gritz Blitz DC and Too Legit HC. Yep exactly, everybody remembers Glanville's "schtick" which did wear thin after a while, but his defensive scheme got a lot out of teams that really didn't have a lot of individual talent with due respect to Deion and the Hammer in the 90's . Quinn strikes me as a motivator more than a defensive tactician, but a motivator seems to be what this team certainly needs till it can boost it's talent level on defense. It's a different era but until Quinn whips out the State of California trophy, or starts leaving tickets at will call for Tupac (RIP) not a lot reminds me of Glanville.I believe in Quinn's training camp atmosphere and approach it will bring positive dividends but very interested to see how he coaches and makes decisions on game day and crunch time thats the unknown. Think he will do better than MS, but want to see how he handles going for it on 4th and one, or if he keeps the foot on the gas with a lead, how the team comes out after half time , and how he responds when the Birds get slapped around and are down by 10-14 points. A good game day coach is worth 3 wins a year alone, everybody knows Smitty left some games on the table the last 2 years. With what seems to be an easy schedule Quinn's game day decisions will tell the tale of the 2015 Falcons as much as anything else. Especially if there is a learning curve early on in adjusting to Shanahan's new offense. **** I can't wait to find out....Every time somebody post these videos I watch em.. Duff_Man
Glanville was a good DC but was circus act as a HC, ala Rex Ryan, ala Buddy Ryan. That is exactly correct. Kevin Gilbride and Norv Turner come to mind as well.
BankerBird™
The tempo Quinn is setting can only benefit the Falcons when they face the tempo the Eagles will undoubtedly employ in Week 1. Quinn obviously recognizes that and wants to ensure the Falcons are equally conditioned with, if not better than, the Eagles.
NCFalconfan
Loved Glanville as a Defensive Coordinator-the man was a revolutionary mind in that category.Like what I'm seeing from Quinn so far, if the players buy in I think we're gonna see good things. vafalconfan
If you think back to when the Falcons began their interviews after Quinn left the building I can see Blank and everyone high- fiveing each other.. they kept the process moving so not to tip their hand, but they knew who they wanted to hire from the getgo and were willing to wait. Remember all the media pundits blasting the front office for letting Rex Ryan leave town without a contract?.. where are they now?
Dukeduke211
I think he just wants them to practice how they play. I don't think he is conditioning his team for the eagles style, especially since they are not even in the same division. he wants them to play hard therefore they are gonna practice hard. I don't think Quinn is playing anyone elses fiddle. he is worried about his team.

The Vent King
I absolutely luvvvvv the energy Quinn brings. Not to be a downer, but does it equate to good in game situation decision making? A lot has been made about the way he is more uptempo and all, but he's never been the head honcho which is a diff animal so I believe this is a fair concern. We needed a diff type of energy I TOTALLY believe that. When Smitty got here we never knew he would bungle up timeout situations like he ended up doing and there's no way we could. Im hoping for the best and all, but I would wait b4 I would deem Quinn the next Moses u know? Managing the game is what I want to see most, but as far as camp goes I do luv what he's doing. It's just the game I'm worried about...we gon see!And this is coming from someone who had Quinn on top of his list when we were searching for a new HC just to let you know...GO FALCONS!
