So you don't want to discuss the players themselves? Gotcha.

Come on, this is lazy.

You're the one that claim the Braves right now at this moment don't like the trade and should have accepted one of the other offers they had for Gattis and yet you don't have a thing to backup that claim. It makes you look silly and you're too good of a poster for that.

Lazy is throwing out a stat like .900 OPS against and saying that makes a bad trade. I know you didn't like that trade. You didn't like it from the beginning. You've never cared for Foltynewicz or Ruiz. You liked Gattis. I get it. But you're acting like Foltynewicz is the first pitcher to struggle in his first big league starts, or that Ruiz is the first prospect to struggle with his first taste of AA pitching.

In 1988, were you upset by the Doyle Alexander trade after John Smoltz stunk up the joint in his first 12 starts? You have to let these things breathe.

A .900 OPS against isn't an out of nowhere stat and you know it. If Folty were a marginal minor league player called up to the bigs for emergency starts, everyone would be SCREAMING to get him off the team. It's why I posted the stats of other pitchers who were (relatively) harder to hit. Prospect status only goes so far. Everything you say about my impressions of each player is true, and it's magnified by knowing that Gattis was the best player we had outside of Freeman for scoring on his own, something we've sorely missed. That doesn't change the fact that if the Braves were offered the same prospects right now for the same player, they'd scoff at it. If you disagree, pick a time when you think it's fair to evaluate the trade.

That's the thing that folks aren't considering. It's way too early to consider this a bad deal. Also it would be a bad thing if Folty had been awful every time he stepped on the mound but that's not the case. He has proven he can pitch successfully at the major league level. He just needs to learn to do it on a consistent basic and that will come with time.

Mike Foltynewicz - 11 GS, 64 IP, 79 H, 42 R, 38 ER, 14 HR, 20 BB, 56 SO, 5.34 ERA, 1.547 WHIP

John Smoltz - 12 GS, 64 IP, 74 H, 40 R, 39 ER, 10 HR, 33 BB, 37 SO, 5.48 ERA, 1.672 WHIP

Weren't you the one who railed me for defending Shelby for letting a game get away from him just one time, when I said he is pressing because always feeling like he has to throw a shutout takes it's toll on him?

Be consistent man....

That was like 2 months ago before it became a now 14 straight starts without a win dude. I didn't feel like it had reached that point yet but now I feel like it has.

I'd rather not have to watch it. I'd rather see actual productive players out there.

This reminds me of a time after Ted Turner took over as owner. The Braves were playing really bad (no surprise). One particular game they really stunk it up, when Ted went up to the PA announcers booth just as the game ended and apologized for the pathetic product on the field and told everyone to come back tomorrow night free of charge, as well as get a refund for this game.

If we had ownership with a heart, they should be offering something like this now.

I'm sure some fans are screaming for him to be off the team. It doesn't matter. The Braves need to see if they can harness what Foltynewicz brings and get him to being a productive major league player. This is the time to do it because the season is already lost. If he can't, I'd like to find out now before, hopefully, we're playing meaningful games next season. So that .900 OPS stat doesn't mean a heck of a lot, especially in isolation. If I cherry-picked some stat to try to prove a shaky proposition, you'd call me out on it, and rightfully so. "The Gattis trade was a disaster because Foltynewicz has a .900 OPS against in 11 starts" is so flimsy it's borderline nonsensical.

And I have no idea what Hart would or wouldn't take the same batch of prospects right now because there's way too many variables to consider.

As for when it's fair to evaluate a trade, it depends... likely when Gattis and the three players the Braves acquired finish their terms with their current organizations. This was a trade designed to improve the club in the long-term, so it needs to be evaluated in the long term.

Any business will not do that now. From fast food being slow to bad product. They will always use the promise of next time. The Braves have to attack Free agency or trades this offseason to show progress.
