Nah. Isn't ff567 supposed to be the overreacting one?

I was re-watching the game when I posted that. Three of those homers were cheap, but MLB hitters square up far too easily on Folty. Combined with Ruiz being a conscientious objector to violence against baseballs, a soon-to-be 24-year-old in A-ball is the best piece we have thus far. We had a solid asset and what we got back hasn't offered anything of value in 2015.

We had a solid asset. We traded it for assets that are of far less value. It's lousy economics.

You're evaluating the trade way prematurely. You may as well say we lost the Justin Upton trade because he's been better than Jace Peterson.

Foltynewicz has just as much potential as when we traded for him, Ruiz is still young for his level, and Thurman looks like he could rise quickly. Meanwhile Gattis has on OPS+ below 100 and still doesn't play a position.

Here's what I'll say. If you ask the Braves privately if they wish they'd taken one of the other offers instead of Houston's, there's no doubt in my mind they universally answer yes. It's not even close to in dispute.

With regards to when it's specifically okay to examine the trade, everything is relative in life and gets evaluated based on changing circumstances. Right now, we gave away a power hitter who'd done well for a hitter with an OPS under .600, a pitcher ALLOWING an OPS of .906, and Thurman, who's fine, maybe even great, for what he is. Folty's career OPS is against is up to .897 after 85 innings. For his career to date, he makes every hitter Adrian Gonzalez. Cahill and Stults were at .836 and .843 when we ditched them. That's a scary statement right there.

BTW, if you didn't catch it, there was a lovely tribute to Skip Caray at the start of the 5th (?) inning on the seventh anniversary of his death. Chip pointed out something I hadn't realized. Skip died on August 3rd, and Pete died on August 2nd. So, those are tough days for everybody in their families.

How can you say that when you don't even know what the other offers were?

They are truly missed. I especially miss Ernie Johnson. He had a way of describing the action as if you were a young boy and he was your grandpa taking you to the game and telling you what was happening.

Pete, Skip, and Ernie.... just rolls off the tongue.

If you know what other offers were on the table you need to spill. You are correct that it is "not even close to in dispute" only in that we have no knowledge of what there would be to argue about. Otherwise, I will simply call this out as a clumsy way to end the discussion that you started.

Those 3 and John Sterling was the crew I grew up with. Billy Sample did well for a couple of years but when Sutton took over for him, that's the best 4 in the business in my book...

I remember a little bit later after Ernie very rarely did games anymore and they had Joe who came on board in 92. Joe actually used to be pretty good. But he's gotten stupid in his old age. I remember in those days they would switch from tv to radio in the middle of the 5th inning.

A lot of people forget about Sterling. He was also the Hawks announcer just before Holman took over. I actually grew up with Milo Hamilton and Ernie Johnson. I never liked Milo after he grabbed the mike from Ernie to call Aaron's 715 th homer. That was supposed to be Ernie's call.

At this point, we have a pitcher who can't pitcher, a hitter who can't hit, and an old guy for A ball. It's okay to be honest when the trades don't go right. I'm not ruling anybody out long term, but you're kidding yourself if you think the Braves are happy with the results thus far.

A .900 OPS allowed. That's a real stat.
