Offensice Line Will Decide Our Fate

Recommended Posts

It's apparent that the weakest part of our team is once again going to be the offensive line. Most of our guys on the OL are either hurt, less than average, or both.

These random OL signings and meeting really are showing how desperate we are at the position and has me concerned as it has been once again rejected by the FO.

If somehow we can get 5 starters to stay healthy and be average, I can see us having a 10-6 season, but if we cannot, I think we can finish 7-9 or worse.

What are your thoughts on our weak OL?

It's a big lynchpin for our season most definitely. The optimistic side of me wants to think it just can't get any worse than it's been the last two years. I'm just gong to take it step by step. First step: cross my fingers and pray That we make it out of training camp healthy. Then I'll take it from there.

It's just sad that Matthews, Holmes, Asamoah, Hawley, etc etc are all battling injuries. Chester is new,

I agree but I'll go further and say other Injury status this year will decide our fate.

Even with all the stupid coaching the last two years we would have been a playoff team each year had we not had 10 + guys on IR each year.

Last year our oline was starting to look good before injuries.

I think even with a lack of talent on oline as a whole we can be very good if they just stay healthy and gel during the season.

All the Ol signings are bottom of the roster types that every team is doing right now. Releasing Gunn and signing Burton is cutting the 6th guard and signing the 5th tackle.

All the injured Olinemen except Holmes are cleared to practice.

Matthew, Chester, Hawley, Asomoah, Schreader has a chance to be a solid Oline. If Long is healthy and signs, either move Matthew to RT or replace Schreader.

Keys for a good Oline this year:

Matthews being the stud they drafted him to be

Having the same five guys out there on a consistent basis, hasn't happened for 2 years

Establishing a run game

Balanced offense.

Last two will make the Oline's job much easier, if the DLine has to play run and pass, so much easier for the Oline to work.

Define decide our fate. Our O-Line was horrible last year and if our defense played halfway decently we would have made the playoffs. I think that's the squad that will hold most sway over our success or failure. If the guys all take a year to gel with the new schemes and such, we'll probably have another high pick. If they can get into it quickly and play with the quickness and intensity Quinn is hoping for, we'll probably do pretty well (record-wise) whether our O-Line is drastically improved or not.

I seen on twitter that Person was playing with the ones and Chester was with the 2s.

I remember Chester being decent in his prime and know nothing about Person. Does Person have a legit shot of starting at Lg ?

Also are either of these guys much of a upgrade over Blalock ?

I have no hope at all for this year.

The team seems to have lost whatever plans or blueprint they had for improving the line.

Without a solid o-line, our running game will not improve appreciably.

Without a solid o-line our passing game will HAVE to be centered around dump-off dink&dunking, so I'm glad Shanahan is featuring it early.

My only hope is that the team realizes that part of the 11 man offensive unit is the 5 big guys in front of Matt Ryan, and that they are not some schleps that randomly wandered onto the field. Because that is exactly what our last two signings have been: random schleps.

Well I told yall boys months ago that Person will likely be our starting LG. He was one of the only free agent mofos we signed to three years.
