The Falcons had two offensive linemen cleared to practice on Thursday.

Left tackle Jake Matthews, recovering from offseason foot surgery, will be able to participate in the team's first practice of training camp on Friday. His reps may be limited, however.

"It feels good," Matthews said, per the Atlanta Journal Constitution. "I'm ready to go. I'm cleared to do anything. When we start tomorrow, I will be out there and playing. I'm excited. It's been awhile."

Right guard Jon Asamoah was also cleared to begin practice. He suffered an ankle injury in the offseason.

Magnificent news on Jake Mathews, Lord almighty do we need that dude out there playing at a high level right away.

I honestly don't think most fans realize the imact that a really good LT can have to an offense. Jake played on one leg all lasrt year, I cannot WAIT to see how much he will be helping Ryan in the passing game especially.

I've had a few high ankle sprains in my life, and the pain associated with them when you try to push off or cut is overwhelming at times and the dang things take forever to heal.

You are right, he proved to me he's tough as nails last year and quite frankly, given the injury and the fact he trained at RT all camp and opreseason and was shifted over to LT for first game, he played very well all things considered. I am already confident we have the franchise LT we've desperately needed and this year he'll shut up his detractors.
