Wow, this thread got off the rails quick! (whoever inserted Roddy, **** you!)

Going back to the OP and the original thoughts on negotiations, I got two things:

1) it must be terribly refreshing for Falcons owner, GM and HC to have their star player not only not be a diva, but a guy that says the things that Julio says ("I just wanna work") and do the things that he does when he could be sulking and actin' a fool - pouting until his deal gets done.

2) I saw the annual figure go north of $15mm. While Julio deserves money UP TO what Bey-Bey and Dez got, why should he be paid more? He's been hurt more and his TDs are considerably less. Both of those guys got 5yr, $70mm deals (avg $14mm/yr). I don't mind overpaying Julio just a little and matching those contracts - but if we pay him MORE - then that is just bad negotiations to me because both Bey-Bey and Dez deserve more - just based on pure production.

This makes no sense...Brady isn't the highest paid quarterback and pretty sure he means more to his team than Joe Flacco or Cutler mean to theirs

It definitely makes sense. Brady is being paid way less than he's worth and he knows it. he did that purposefully with the goal of winning another championship at it worked.

I thought it was a rather logical answer myself. What makes it garbage?

both the other players have done more

both the other players are the #1 weapon on their offense

how is Julio "more valuable" than that? they are all equally valuable but the other two have been healthier and more productive.

none of the above is even arguable.

Hey... I don't remember saying that JJ should or will get more...LOL...I'm simply saying that JJ will get big $$ because he's worth more to the Falcons, in the eyes of AB, than the other on their teams.

Moving the goalposts is an informal logical fallacy in which previously agreed upon standards for deciding an argument are arbitrarily changed once they have been met. This is usually done by the "losing" side of an argument in a desperate bid to save face. If the goalposts are moved far enough, then the standards can eventually evolve[1] into something that cannot be met no matter what (or anything will meet said standard if the losing side is trying to meet the standard using this tactic). Usually such a tactic is spotted quickly.

Who changed the standards...? LOL...are you saying I moved the goalposts or the other guys? LOL...

Roddy's mouth has never bothered me and I think it's because he's not shouting about himself and how great he is, he mostly just goes after injustice in the league. He's never said anything to get himself fined or anything stupid like that so It's ok by me.

He actually got fined 10 k for his "Free Mike Vick" T-shirt.

Oh yeah. Well I guess those personal fines don't matter too much as long as it doesn't affect playing time. Lots of our guys have received fines for hitting incorrectly.

Yeah, just reminding you that happened.

Actually am really grateful that the Falcons haven't had Diva WRs for years. White mouths off, but he also works his butt off and plays hard.

It's refreshing to hear Jones say- my agent is working on it, I'm here to play football.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- Atlanta Falcons Pro Bowl wide receiver Julio Jones, who reported to training camp Thursday, said his agent and the team have started negotiations toward a new long-term contract.

Jones has one year left on his deal and is scheduled to make $10.176 million this season. Fellow receivers Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas recently received five year, $70 million contracts that included more than $40 million guaranteed.

Jones was asked if a new deal could be reached soon.

"I don't know," he said. "I haven't talked to (the Falcons). My agent (Jimmy Sexton) and the Falcons obviously have been talking. I haven't been talking. I talked to DQ (coach Dan Quinn) earlier. Me and him are on the same page. He just needs me to be the leader I am and to continue to keep working hard and take care of what I can take care of."

Jones participated in all offseason activities and vowed not to being a training camp holdout. He's coming off a franchise-record setting 1,593 receiving yards last season on a career-high 104 receptions. He accomplished the feat despite missing one game with an oblique injury. Detroit's Calvin Johnson is the highest paid receiver in the league at $16.2 million per year. Veteran Falcons receiverRoddy White would like Jones to reach that mark, or at least close to it.

"I want my dog to get as much money as he can get," White said of Jones. "You know me. I want him to get $17 million per year."

Getting an extension done with a star player before training camp wouldn't be new for the Falcons. Quarterback Matt Ryan agreed to a five-year, $103.75 million extension on July 25, 2013, the same day training camp started. And last year, White signed an extension through 2017 (worth $18 million) on July 25, the day training camp began

Shuttup Roddy! lol

So between $14M and $17M. Way too much for a WR. Especially for a team with Oline issues and unanswered questions all over the defense. Let him play out his rookie contract and see what kind of team we have. We might still have holes all over the place. We're a roster full over injury questions, old heads and one year journeyman at several key positions.

Didn't Kansas City and Baltimore recently try that method and got burned?
