raysnill1
so, with all the Jake Long talk and all the panic about our O-line situation I decided to look into what we do have and whoever edited this video did an excellent job of letting us see the plays from different angles and we really get to see Jake in action. well, color me impressed. the one thing I keep looking at is his feet, dude moves pretty darn well in both the run and pass game. can't say he'd be any good on the pro level but one thing that works in his favor is technique. if we can coach this guy up and develop him, he could be a pretty descent RT
AtlantaFanatic
There are many examples of 7th rounders and UDFA that end up having success in the league. There are far more examples of 7th rounders and UDFA that never make a squad. He does look pretty fluid on his feet yet the level of competition isn't great. The good news is I don't think any of us have really high expectations for him so if he busts, it's no big deal but if he's good, then we got a steal. I'll just wait and see what happens. Thanks for posting the video though OP.
Lornoth
Isn't that guy everybody loves that's our current RT an UDFA? Yeah it's certainly possible. I know a couple guys around here are really high on Rodgers.

Doesn't mean I'm a debbie downer on him either.
raysnill1
if you actually do sit through all 30 minutes lol, they also kick him to RG on a couple of plays and he still handles his business. he seems a good fit for ZBS. I'm digging the way he moves

Glad you're reasonable about Schraed too... not many seem to be. lol

Glad you're reasonable about Schraed too... not many seem to be. lolI've gotten way too worked up over late round draft picks in the past just to be disappointed. Any pick after the 3rd round is a complete crapshoot on what you're going to get. I think we got better value out of 4th and 5th rounds this year but even still, I'm in the mindset that Hardy and Jarrett will have to prove themselves before I get excited. I will give them more than their rookie year to prove themselves though. Can't expect them to ball out year one. I can hope, but can't expect it. Knight of God
I think Schraeder is average and that's good for OL in all honesty. If Rodgers is at least avg then we're in there. That's all we really need.

Doesn't mean I'm a debbie downer on him either.good attitude to have. I know he played against lesser competition but that didn't affect Khalil Mack. talent is talent. personally I'm proud and happy for Schraeder because I went to VSU and it's always great to see a fellow Blazer succeed. even with that bit of bias, he just wasn't that impressive to me. hopefully he's a better fit for the ZBS but Jake's tape just jumps out at me. I just hope we can solidify the line to at least average lol

Man, I hope we don't waste his career by having rice paper linemen and not giving him the chance to do something special.

He may not, but then he just might. Never know. With draft status. Taking a guy in the 7th or UDFA doesn't mean the man sucks. It means the further you go in the draft you have to temper your expectations more and more.Rodgers is a project. He has average pro day scores, above average measures, and has a nasty player mentality. He's an interesting pick. I preferred another RB, but hey...Mooney. I guess it takes about a year or two (according to Roger Staubach) before the football instincts kick back in so we're getting him at the right time

GTBF54
Rodgers is gonna need a lot of work but he has the tools to make it in the NFL.... Bummer with his dad passing....OverviewFather, John Rodgers, died Dec. 26, two weeks after suffering a heart attack while watching his son play his final game for Eastern Washington. Initially signed with Washington State as a tight end. Transferred from Washington State in the spring of 2013 after starting all 12 games on the offensive line for the Cougars in 2012. Played defensive end, tight end, punter and kicker in high school.Pro Day Results40-yard dash: 5.24 secondsVertical jump: 30 1/2 inchesBroad jump: 8 feet, 10 inches3-cone drill: 8.04 secondsShort shuttle: 4.81 secondsBench: 24 reps of 225 poundsAnalysisStrengths Former high school tight end who has natural movement for the tackle position. Gains good ground with first two steps and can handle himself against edge speed. Keeps hands in ready position and has some snap behind his punch. Uses good posture in protection and has enough anchor. Shows desired movement to get to back-side cutoff. Takes pretty good angles to his block. Athletic enough to redirect back inside and smother inside moves when his setup is balanced. Effective quick-setter who can go get his man. Able to work combo blocks and hook defender to the outside in run game.WeaknessesPlays from a two-point stance and will have to acclimate to having a hand on the ground. Has some knee bend, but hips are a little stiff, causing occasional anchor and balance issues. Needs to improve consistency of timed punch to maximize length. Plays with athletic traits over technique right now. Legs get heavy and slow after contact. Doesn't get into defenders with desired leverage as run blocker and turns into a pusher rather than driver. Weight distribution can be uneven with occasional over-set in pass pro and mirror issues. Draft Projection Round 7 or priority free agent Sources Tell Us "His hands are just too weak to me. He lets his blocks loose because he can't control them with hand strength." - NFC offensive line coach NFL Comparison Breno GiacominiBottom LineAthletic tackle who shows effective movement skills on interior to make tough angle blocks. Has the feet to compete at swing tackle in the NFL. Rodgers has very good moments in the first half of many snaps, but will see his play decline in the second half of the snap. Improved technique and balance will be the key to his chances as an NFL prospect.http://www.nfl.com/draft/2015/profiles/jake-rodgers?id=2553236
