Roddy White Isn't That Far Off His Normal Numbers

Recommended Posts

I think to many are saying Roddy has declined a ton over the last two season so reading some of these post i did a little digging and in his last 16 games (18 games for the team) his slash lines are

100 catches 1150 yards and 9 TDs

thats really not that far off his career numbers when he was in his prime plus jones was in most of those 16 games as well so he did that really as the number two guy.

Has he declined? sure has he declined as much as some are stating or making it out to be? H311 no is he the number 1 guy anymore? no skill wise could he still get you 100 catches 1200 yards and 10 TDs over a season sure if he stays healthy as a number 1 guy.

i think white's problem at this stage is more so staying healthy not skill set yet he's still pretty good and has shown that in the last 16 games he's played in

one thing a lot of people don't really factor in but point to injuries and the decline in skills have to remember Jones is the number 1 guy now he wasn't before last season white numbers would be closer to his norm if Jones wasn't here ( and im not saying he shouldn't be Jones is easily the falcons 2nd best player and outside of Ryan the hardest to replace and should be a major peace of the falcons now and in the future)

Hankerson and hardy both could develop into big parts of the offense but when you look at whites numbers over his last 16 games they'd have to be really really really good to really even push him for touches. If anything they may help whites numbers improve by him playing some in the slot.

i my self didn't think white had those numbers over his last 16 games seems if he can stay healthy ( running the ball more and having better depth should help) he will have a productive year. i will say though white is probably a major injury from retirement though if he had an acl tear or Achilles or a broken foot or something he may be done and not return to this level but his decline isn't that much from what he once was.

Well said op. Totally agree. I've said this before. It's all about whether he can stay healthy. Perhaps it has been a pipe dream, but I was hoping playing with TG would rub off on Roddy some as far as taking his health and diet more seriously. I don't care how he does it, I just want him on the field regardless.

yea declining surgery in my option was a bad decision because if he's having to have it drained it causing him problems if he had it cleaned up with the surgery he may get a little bit of his speed back and be even more effective than he has been the last two seasons but its his choice and im not going to knock a guy who wants to avoid surgery

i also think the the coaching on the offensive side can do a better job of moving him around getting him more involved and not relieing on jones so much especially given his injury history spreading the ball around more helps both white and jones right now teams are just keying in on jones if white was more involved and hankerson and hardy play big roles the offense wouldn't be so dependent on Jones like they were the last two seasons also adding an improved run game could also help white because the more you throw the ball the more routes the WRs have to run thats 100 less plays white could get injured plus the defense has more things to worry about

TG was so effective because Jones and white took the two best cover guys teams never had that 3rd guy or Lber or safety that could cover him so more depth in hankerson and hardy plus moving him around like they did TG could help him a lot but his numbers weren't that bad over his last 16 games.

plus he's going to be 34 soon missing 2 games out of 18 isn't that bad jones has only played in 16 games once in his 4 seaons
