Atlanta Falcons Add Demarcus Love For Depth At Offensive Tackle

Recommended Posts

The Atlanta Falcons added another body for depth at offensive tackle -- signing Demarcus Love to a two-year, minimum-salary contract.

Love, out of Arkansas, last played for the Denver Broncos. He started his career as a sixth-round draft pick of the Minnesota Vikings in 2011. He also had stops with the Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Giants, and New Orleans Saints.

The addition of Love brings the Falcons' roster to 90. The 6-foot-4-inch, 334-pound Love continues to work his way into playing shape. He hopes to slim down to 322 pounds by the start of the season, provided he makes the roster.

Depth along the offensive line is an obvious concern for the Falcons going into training camp, which starts Friday. Starting left tackle Jake Matthews is coming off foot surgery to repair a Lisfranc ligament tear, while backup Lamar Holmes could start camp on the physically unable to perform list (PUP) after suffering a broken foot during minicamp. Projected starting right tackle Ryan Schraeder, veteran Tyler Polumbus, and rookies Jake Rodgers and Matt Huffer are the other tackles on the roster.

The Falcons worked out former first-overall pick Jake Long on Tuesday, but Long left town without signing a contract. He visited the New York Giants Wednesday and reportedly was headed to Denver next. Based on his injury history with two right ACL tears, Long probably wouldn't have been an ideal fit in offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan's outside-zone blocking scheme, which emphasizes good lateral movement for the offensive linemen.

Love apparently has the ability to get out and run in the scheme. Now, he just has to get into shape. He is more comfortable at right tackle but can play both sides. Love, who had a least one serious knee injury during his NFL career, also had a cameo appearance at guard during his time with the Saints.

No one expects Love to come in and snatch a starting role. He does have a chance to show he can be a reliable backup.

That's right...thanks to your sorry @$$ GM. TD is a piss poor excuse for the AB, mike smith and all others that will listen

If you are going to blame him for all things that don't work out, You should give him credit for all the FAs and Draft picks we got this year, and for him bringing in the best young HC in the league,, = Quinn, We will make he playoffs barring injury to Ryan , will you give him credit then for all the right moves he made this past offseason ???? No , I'm sure you probably will not. I can read in your words you have some kind of connection with Smith and Co who would have never gotten us to a Championship.

TD should have been fired with Smitty, TD hand picked Smitty and look at the holes the Falcons have right now. O-line, TE, D-line, LB. This is unacceptable. Just because he hired another coach does not make him a great GM. His work as a whole is shown in the amount of HOLES the Falcons have on their roster. Also keep in mind Our first three picks in this years draft involved a number 1 that draft analst said was a reach and and number 2 and 3 that both FELL in the draft. Building a football roster is like life, you are where you are because of the choices you make.

What kind of nonsense horseshit is this?

Lets see the results on the field. Dont tell me what a great draft the Falcons had, show me. Coleman and Collins both dropped in draft, FACT, Beasley was rated to go late first round FACT. Not horsepoo FACT. Dont tell me about the labor pains show Atlanta fans the baby.

Define "dropped"

You mean they didn't get selected 1st overall? Correct.

Beasley was certainly not "rated to go late first round" at all. Incorrect.

As much as I appreciate the troll act, don't build that **** on things that simply aren't true. You could at least do what the other trolls do and use illogical thinking to arrive at your conclusions. Then again, you're well set up for that in the future...

You must be every bit as dumb as you look if you really believe this.

Back away from the keyboard, grab a skillet, and spend the next 20 minutes trying to beat the stupid out of yourself. Thanks.

Me too now. The edit button is where the quote button used to be before I became a mod. I don't know how many times I've started accidentally editing one of yalls posts trying to quote someone.

Haha! I have edited so many peoples posts on accident trying to quote them! Have to go back and fix it really quick and pretend it never happened!
