After receiving a medical exam and check up from the Giants in East Rutherford, free agent tackle Jake Long left without a contract.

Now, the No. 1 overall pick from the 2008 draft is headed to Atlanta for another examination, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports.

ESPN first reported the workout.

Long was a salary cap casualty in St. Louis after sustaining his second career ACL tear back in 2014. Though he'd only missed seven career games before the unfortunate injury in 2014, the strength of his knee remains an issue for teams.

When healthy, Long is still one of the league's premiere offensive tackles and could very well challenge Ryan Schraeder on the right side depending on the team's plans for 2014 first-round pick Jake Matthews.

If nothing else, Long's presence alone could help Matthews, who toughed his way through an injury during his rookie season to mixed results.

That o-line is a mess. They have to do something.

actually

its not..... it looks to be better than it has been in yrs

if Long is added it would be pretty deep as well

3 of the 4 FAs we signed were Starters for KS in his ZBS and helped pave the way to a rookie getting 1400 + and 12 tds

R Schrader was ranked by pff as being in the top 3 RTs over the last 8 games in 2014, he is who Long would be competing with for the RT spot , he and Polumbas

Falcons O Line should be among the most improved units in the NFL

J Long would just add another proven starter to that deep Group we have in place,

Falcons O Linemen with starting exp

J Matthews

J Asamoagh

J Hawley

C Chester

M Person

J Stone

R Schrader

T Polumbas

P Konz

L Holmes

H Gunn

thats just the guys who have started in this league

J Long would make a nice addition imo

I think Falcons O Line will be better than it has in some time now

we will see

I love your enthusiasm Shred but that group is nothing special and a ZBS won't work magic. Will the unit be improved? Considering how bad they've been latelly, it's certainly a possibility. Most improved unit in the league? Nah.

ZBS worked for us in the DVD era and it will work now because we have better talent in the backfield including the headmaster Matty Ice.

Let me explain something to you. There are 11 guys trying to stop the offense on every play. It doesn't matter if you have Peyton Fn Manning back there, without blocking no play will succeed. Period.

ZBS is a scheme, we've used it before with quicker molbile OLman (not the big lugs y'all have) and we have 3 RBs tailor made for the one cut and hit the hole run. You don't need do explain doodley squat to me rookie!

So an Oline that was the problem last year (according to some here) is now a strength going into 2015.

I hope you all have as hard a time trying not to laugh at this as I do.

He can't...it's beyond his ability. He hates the Falcons so much. If we win in the third game against Dallas, he might combust, I sh1t you not.

You know Rave, what you remind me of? GT fans and their hatred of UGA. You are no better than they are...

That's a pretty sad list of names in my opinion, with or without Long.

I know you do, we are both dawg fans. But the irrational Falcons hate reminds me so much of my GT friends who all went there, And hate UGA so much. It's crazy how bad it is. I even have a deal now to turn off their Facebook feeds during college football season because it gets so bad. All they know how to do is mock anything and everything UGA. They are so fanatic aboutbit. Me, I actually like tech to some degree and root for them except one game of the year. I had one friend, a very well accomplished individual, tell me with all seriousness if Athens got nuked he would be ok, and even throw a party. That just boggles me, I don't hate any team that bad to wish death on a populace just because that's where they are out of...not even Gainesville and Steve spurrier days.
