Dirtybird#11 Posted July 14, 2015 Share Posted July 14, 2015 Imma start it off by addressing what we know. Matt Ryan,Julio Jones,Roddy White,and the STs unit. 2 of the following are elite. The other 2 aren't. The 2 that are elite is JJ11 and the STs unit. We couldn't ask for a better ST unit. Period. The triple threat of Bosher,Bryant,and Hester is automatically best in the league. There is NOBODY that is remotely close to us in that department. As for JJ11 we know what he is. A beast. Sure we can gripe about trading away picks but what we got is a top notch WR who is in fact elite.Now what about the other 2? Roddy is what he is now at his older age. A solid set of hands for Ryan to sling it to. He is undoubtedly our most consistent weapon. He is a chain mover an when Matt needs him he'll utilize him, and most of the time White does what needs to be done. Might not blow up the stats but he is crucial to us. Now Ryan.... As much as fans wanna bring up all sorts of stats about our QB he is NOT elite. The only 4 QBs that have that title is Luck,Brady,Rodgers,and Brees. Now if you wanna debate about it feel free to point this out an I'll give you reason, but personally I don't want this thread to be another debate about whether or not he is or isn't elite. Now let's get into the good stuff now that I've covered what's known. First things first is our lines on both sides of the ball. On one side we got it nearly revamped and on the other it's just a big pile of meh that we hope coordinates well together. The big pile of meh I'm referring to is the OLINE. We don't have an adequate NFL OLINE. The only piece we got that is a known commodity is Asamoah and if he goes down we're dead in the water. I look at it like this.... Our OLINE for the past 2 season has been absolute garbage. And our only move to fix it so far has been to draft 1 guy (Matthews) and proceed to fill out the rest with either injury prone players or below average starters in the NFL. By all means I'm not saying they couldn't get better but I can assure you what we got now won't do us any good late in the season. Our priority next season MUST be to build something up front that isn't flat out embarrassing on Sunday's. I mean really our hope right now that our OLINE will be decent is solely based upon our scheme???? No sir that's not how it works. We gotta have the right players in place before we can say the scheme improved our OLINEs piss poor play! I mean our only move up front for us this past offseason is signing 2 OLINEMEN that put RGIII into "oh sh!t" mode for a solid 2 and a half seasons. This also will effect our run game so no it won't matter who we got in the backfield if we can't give them the holes necessary. But like I said I'm hoping for the best but expecting the worst.Now for the DLINE I must say I'm very impressed with what Quinn has done. I like our additions of Beasley,Jarrett,Schofield,Reed,Clayborn,etc. but he has to make it a priority as a coach to put the best players on the field AT ALL TIMES. Now I know every player can't play all the downs in a 60+ minute football game, but he must not be like Smitty in making the mistake by thinking that a veterans presences makes up for the awful play.... Cause that is also not true! I mean honestly last season our best front 4 IMO on defense was Goodman,Hageman,Peters,and Matthews. An they gotta combined experience level in the NFL of what?!?!? 3 years? Now also let me say this.... I believe that turning our dreadful defense into something noteworthy will take more than just 1 season like some like to believe. I know it'll take longer than that, but I wouldn't be surprised if we got up into the top 20 defensively. *knock on wood*Since I'm still on the topic of this revamp that's taking place defensively for us let me address the secondary. Trufant is for now a pro bowl caliber CB. An I firmly stick by that. But the rest of them are questionable... Especially in this bump an run scheme Quinn established in Seattle in the back-end of things. I mean aside from the "Tru"th we got Alford who is coming off of an injury plus he has a history of holding while covering which doesn't sit well with bump an run. Then we also have Southward who shown some coverage potential but in all will take time to learn his new position. An lastly we got a few unknowns in Collins,Adams,and White. Do I think our pass rush could mask this? Yes! But do I think it'll be consistent enough to propel us into the upper tiers defensively? No. Also I do wanna say since I'm on the secondary portion of my little Truth serum that if Quinn doesn't give Ishmael the minutes he deserves either at SS or FS he is delusional. Ishmael was our best safety in 2014 without question an to put him behind Godfrey,Allen,and Moore is ridiculous! Now my final point of emphasis on field I wanna point out is the LB core. I firmly believe that our unit will be leaps an bounds better than what is has been in the past half decade. So yes I'm saying it now... I think they'll be better than the Peterson,Spoon,and Lofton lineup we had in 2010-2011. As I see it now I think our starters shall be Bartu,Durant,and Reed with Worrilow rotating in for running situations. And IMO that's a very solid group. Do I think we could be top 5 in the NFL? Not yet, but top 7-10 absolutely! With Durant helping in coverage and Reed helping with his ability to read an react especially in running situations we should be greatly improved. I also think Bartu makes a big leap as the year progresses that'll have some eyebrows raised. This is truly one of the brighter spots I see in 2015. Now in conclusion do I think the Falcons will hoist the trophy in their 50th season? He// no. But can we make the playoffs? Yes. Especially in a division as bad as ours so that's why I see us sliding into the WC round at 9-7 only to get escorted out by a more superior team. Cause let's face it Falcons fans we aren't back into elites of the NFC yet that'll take another year or so. But hey the futures bright an I'm ready to see what this 50th season has in store. I still think our LB core is extremely weak though.I think the biggest problem with our oline the past couple years was combination of Dirk Koetters unbalanced play calling and injuries. A new scheme will help that a lot, can't wait to see Matt Ryan with play action passes again. Will they be the best O-line? Probably not but they'll look a lot better than the last couple years. I gave him a little vacation for a piling list of things, but the last was that he obviously needed a break. Spamming the boards with how much he hated the place and how terrible it was. Sorry, but when someone does that they do obviously need a break and don't seem to be capable of doing it on their own terms. It happens quite a lot sadly.
