falconidae
4. Matt Ryan — People don't want to like the Falcons quarterback. Why? Over the past three years he's averaged 4,643 yards, 29 touchdowns, 15 interceptions while completing 67.4 percent of his passes for 7.4 yards per attempt. Those are absurd numbers, not to mention consistent. His 23-25 record won't thrill anyone who argues that quarterbacks are in charge of wins but you shouldn't be arguing with those people anyway. The real chance for a massive season here comes from a weak division coupled with coaching changes. Do I think the Falcons are going to win 12 games next year? No. Could they? Sure. There's six games for the taking with the Panthers, Saints and Buccaneers in the NFC South. Dan Quinn will improve the defense (and I like Vic Beasley as a strong DROY candidate just based on sack totals). He won't completely fix things, though, which means Ryan will still throw a ton. If the defense struggles and Tevin Coleman can't magically fix the running game, Ryan's going to throw a bunch again. He should be a great fit in Kyle Shanahan's offense, with an ability to drive the ball deep to Julio Jones with regularity. Two years ago Ryan was the leader in the clubhouse for midseason MVP. He just needs everything to click next year for something similar.
AtlantaFanatic
I hope you weren't late to work taking the time to post this. lol just messin. Thanks for posting.Ryan is a upper-echelon NFL QB and my eyeballs tell me that. I have never needed stats to back that up.
DoYouSeeWhatHappensLarry
He's milquetoast and boring so I doubt he'll ever get the credit he deserves. But as a QB? He's great. Not Great but great.

raysnill1
for Ryan to be truly great he needs to have a few more 'Pro Bowl' moments in games that matter.

Wjcorner
I think he's gonna have an MVP like year this year...wins, stats, and it'll all start with his primetime pilferage of Philly. Went back and really focused on all Ryan...I think these 2 years of getting out on his *** has helped his pocket presence tremendously. quickzero
Matt Ryan is top 10 definitely. He has a chance to move into the top 5 with an MVP season hes long overdue for.
gazoo
Now that harry Douglas is gone his interception numbers will go down. WRs running the wrong routes, bobbling then losing balls in the air or standing there waiting for the ball to drop in their hands as opposed to attacking it in the air lead to interceptions. Trolls blame Ryan for those, but any fair minded objective person knows trolls are not sincere in their criticism anyway.

As far as the MR trolls...
vel
I can't wait for this season to start. I think part of the problem was the players checking out on wack schemes on both offense and defense. Harry quit on a lot of routes. But so does Roddy when he's no longer interested in the game plan. I think Roddy also played up some of those injuries since we were so bad. Why not rest and try and extend your career? I think he's back to Roddy this year. With Hardy and Tamme patrolling the middle of the field with a strong running game to lean on, I think Ryan flirts with 5,000 yards finally and also breaks 32 TDs. He just wasn't that good of a receiver
vel
so Ryan couldn't hit those numbers with Julio, Roddy and Tony, but he will with...tamme and hardy?Do you guys even think about what you post, or are you just so head over heals all logic is gone?.hobjob.He was close in 2012 with that group.I said flirts. Is it unrealistic for Ryan to add 206 yards and 4 TDs to his production last year with better OL production, a better running game and better weapons in the middle of the field? That would be 4900 yards and 32 TDs. Julio, Roddy, Hardy, Hester, Hankerson, Tamme, Freeman, Coleman, Smith. That's a good crop of weapons. More diverse than his 2012 group. Ryan only had Roddy, Julio, HD, Tony, Turner, Quizz and Snelling and a less imaginative OC. The middle of the field has been barren since Tony retired. Where am I being unrealistic? HD falling down in the 2012 playoffs with a clear path to the end zone was a microcosm of his career. I swear that Matt's career rating would be 5 points higher if HD had simply run better routes, particularly, not giving up on deep routes. Lots more TDs, lot fewer INTs. [i'm only half joking]Agree, doubt he actually gets to 5000, but it's certainly possible. Could easily have done it in 2012, but missed several deep throws to Julio and didn't quite throw enough passes. 4800 yards, 36 TDs and a strong run game works for me. 4200 yards, 36 TD and a strong run game works for me too, think 4800 is more likely. kiwifalcon
TBH I don't care about #ers Ithink Ryan doesn't either.I think at this point you sacrifice your stats for Ws as long as we get the forementioned.I also think with more attention to the running game Ryan's passing yards go down.I think his TD'smay stay around the same though.Doesn't much matter to me to much as long as we get the W's and see improvement along the way.
