Trouble
Bleacher Report's Jason Cole reports the Cowboys believe unsigned franchise player Dez Bryant is bluffing about holding out and missing games. The two sides met Friday, and Cole reports "no progress" was made. He even went as far to say the Cowboys believe Bryant is having money problems and wouldn't be able to afford missing paychecks. Dallas isn't budging off the long-term offer its already made to Bryant and will either tell him to sign the deal or play out the season on the one-year, $12.82 million franchise tender. Rave
Dallas Cowboys RUMORS: Dez Bryant Contract Topping $117 Million? How much money should Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant receive in his extension?By Brandon Katz | Jun 22, 2015 12:28 PM EDT Will the Dallas Cowboys come to terms on an extension with wide receiver Dez Bryant? (Photo : Getty Images) If you're a Dallas Cowboys fan then you know that wide receiver Dez Bryant and owner Jerry Jones are at a bit of a stand still over contract negotiations at the moment. Bryant has yet to sign his franchise tag tender (which will pay him just south of $13 million this year) in hopes of getting a long-term extension hammered out before the July 15 deadline. But Jones, after refusing to budge on a bigger deal for running back DeMarco Murray earlier this offseason, is clearly playing a bit of hardball. Despite the apparent lack of progress, Bryant is one of the game's preeminent wide receivers and an extension should come to fruition eventually. But what will that deal actually look like? It's a question that was posed to ESPN Cowboys reporter Todd Archer in his weekly mailbag."Teams and agents can really make contracts say whatever they want," Archer wrote. "So let's call Bryant's potential deal nine years for $117 million. Does that make everybody happy? That's $13 million per season on average. But that doesn't mean Bryant will earn $117 million. No. Heck, he might not get half that. The key to any contract is the first three years and the guaranteed money. The Cowboys are willing to pay Bryant $12.8 million this year under the franchise tag and another $15 million in 2016 if need be. To me, Bryant has to make at least $28 million in the first two years of this deal if that's what the tags would pay. Now, what about that third year? I'm sure that's part of the hang up. I would put Bryant's guarantee in the $36-38 million range. Maybe Tom Condon is looking for more. If I'm the Cowboys, I'm not going to Calvin Johnson's $50 million guarantee. That's too big of a jump from the other receiver deals out there. But to me those would be the parameters (three years, $38 million). After that the two sides can just go about filling in the blanks and making the back side of the deal some sort of funny money."Stephen Jones recently made some comments regarding the "wide gap" between the two sides and seemed reluctant to top $12.5 million in annual salary. Though that would still put Bryant among the top five highest paid wide receivers in the game, it may not be enough. Bryant has already threatened to sit out Week 1's game against the New York Giants and seems determined to get his version of a contract. Whether or not his resolve holds (and either his demands come down or Dallas' offer goes up) remains to be seen.
Trouble
"So let's call Bryant's potential deal nine years for $117 million.Ok after reading that. I dont blame Dez. 9 years? Are they kidding me? Who signs a 9 year deal and actually expects to play it out fully? Except Saints players who sign deals just for fun.But I thought Dez was being greedy at first. The Cowboys are screwing him with that deal. Unless a majority is fully guaranteed.
Trouble
Prime reason Dez shouldn't sign is because of Graham. Saints pay him 13 mill and then trade him 1 year later.id take a less money deal and less years with more guaranteed than some fluff contract that sounds nice. Shredman
probably notemmit smith sure enough didnt bluff um in 93, he missed the first 2 games that yr, Boys were 0-2, he got paid big, came back in week 3 , they finished like 12-4 and became Back to Back world Champions that yr...you can cold bet Jerry Jones Remembers that, and if I know That, you can be sure Dez Bryants Agent knows that...The Julio Jones type Super Stars are a rare thing in todays NFL, or any Pro Sport Reallyprobably time to stop bashing Dez so much when he is only doing what 99% of other players on his level would do....stillGreat to have that 1% Guy on our Team , and as soon as Dez resets the Market, I expect J Jones to be in that Neighborhood and get resigned by the Falcons before he ever hits the FA Status ... If Emmitt wasnt great and it was all the Oline, then why didnt Dallas' running game do enough in those first two games to win?I will admit that Julio is a classy dude, I have nothing to say about his character, but as you said, Dez is only doing what other NFL players are doing. He wants his security, can you blame him?
