So you want capitalism gone, private industry gone, and the government to own all means of production?

Because that's what the DSA (Democratic Socailists of America) and Bernie Sanders want as their long term goals.

Then we can all enjoy poverty together like every other country that has gone all the way with socialism.

You do know that the majority to the top 10 countries in the world with the highest standard of living, the happiest citizens, the lowest crime rates, best health care, highest education, etc., etc., etc. all have significant elements of socialism in their governments, right?

Just giving my point of view from the fence rider prospective. It seems to upset you.

Doesn't upset me. In fact, it amuses me when you post things to the effect of "I'm an independent, but liberals do x,y, and z . . . well, conservatives do some bad stuff too, I guess."

Looks like you have more homework to do yourself.

He's also a DSA member. http://keywiki.org/Bernie_Sanders#Proof_of_DSA_membership

He'll tell you that he wants us to be like Scandinavia but that's not his real long term goal. That's just the goal that he thinks will help get him elected.

"In its broadest sense, democratic socialism could refer to any attempts to bring about socialism through democratic means as opposed to violent insurrection."

DSA Website: "In the short term we can’t eliminate private corporations"

In the short term...what about long term? That's the quote from the Democratic Socialists website.

In the long term they have not done that in any of the democratic socialist nations. What makes you think it will be wildly different here? Or are the corporations in bed with Bernie, too?

Yeah, I'ma take the word of a group that couldn't even get which state the man is from correct. Seems legit.

DSA != European socialists. Again, read the DSA's stated long term goals.

You can check out the Scandanavian Democratic Socialist parties if you want. The Swedish one, for example, lists things such as guaranteed employment, welfare expansion, and more 'active industrial policies,' which all 'take precedence' over, "tax cuts and privatization."

To me, the DSA seems to be pushing for something much closer to communism. That is different from what I get from the goals Sanders mentions & what we see in those Scandinavian countries.

The Communists love him too:

And by the way, you still have a lot to learn about Sanders' history with the DSA.

I'm sure he's had some level of correspondence or communication with folks from both those organizations. That really should not be surprising. However, painting him as some sort of Cold War-era Marxist seems frighteningly similar to those frightened right-wing folks who were so concerned with Obama's connections to certain churches & his birth certificate.

Rather than making silly comments about bread lines & such, how about breaking down the points he made in the speech & providing a thoughtful response to each issue, and how he's wrong about any of those things?

So you believe that what politicians say during campaign speeches is what they will actually do in office? Interesting...

When they aren't puppets & have been doing it for 30 years out of a love for humanity rather than to have their pockets lined, yes I do believe he means every bit of what he says & will do everything he can to see that through.

Like I said earlier though, if he does get elected he will sadly either step on too many toes, be seen as a threat to the greed machine, and find himself silenced... or he will just be faced with trying to function in a corrupt system that keeps him from having any true success.

SB is proving that using labels allows you to disconnect your brain.

If I ran for some government race, SB would post about how I like Malcolm X due to a few of his quotes I like. Would immediately mark me as a Muslim extremist and post me on commieblaster

It amuses me how if the Google search bar crashes, so does your IQ.

Apparently both his fans and detractors believe that political realities don't apply to Bernie Sanders.

Even if he were elected, he wouldn't be able to make college tuition free or abolish all private property or throw Steve in a FEMA death-camp. Which is a shame, because 2 of those sound like really great ideas.

Hey y'all, remember when Obama was the authoritarian socialist who was going to turn the USA into a soviet-style communist country?

SB has been so prescient when it comes to predicting the downfall of capitalism!

I'm sure you know that Bernie Sanders actually calls himself a Democratic Socialist.
