Mr. Lubba Lubba©
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/06/26/dan-quinn-says-he-was-joking-about-herschel-walker/Well, there went the plot for a potential Disney movie.Falcons coach Dan Quinn says he was joking when he recently suggested that the team would be interested in 53-year-old running back Herschel Walker, who continues to say he could still play in the NFL.“Look, what I said about Herschel being one of my all-time favorite players is true, but nobody should take seriously what I said about having room on the team for him,” Quinn said, via Chris Mortensen of ESPN. “I love him, yes, but some of that was in jest. I love the running backs we have on our roster. We had a great offseason, and I’m excited about going into training camp with that group.”Quinn admits he wasn’t misquoted when he said the Falcons “have room” for Walker, but that his words were misinterpreted. It wasn’t clear based on the initial report from the Atlanta Journal Constitution whether Quinn was serious about being interested in Walker. So, to summarize, if Walker is going to launch a wrong-side-of-50 return to the NFL, he’ll be doing it somewhere other than Atlanta.Misinterpreted quote in question from http://sportsnewsnow.blog.ajc.com/2015/06/24/herschel-a-falcon-we-have-room/ On Tuesday, Falcons head coach Dan Quinn was asked at a Buckhead Business Association meeting if the team could use Walker, who compiled 8,225 rushing yards in more than a dozen NFL seasons. In short, the AJC’s D. Orlando Ledbetter reports, the answer was “Yes.”

Mr. Lubba Lubba©
I assumed as much. Not surprising DLed couldn't sense sarcasm. He's terrible. All it would have taken would be for Ledbetter to put his press pass to use and say "Hey Coach, I'm going to write a story with this quote, were you serious?" Why does Ledbetter have to resort to yellow journalism?
falconidae
Know it's easy to bash DLed, but, I knew that was joke when I read it. DLed might have assumed that everybody knew it was a joke.
gazoo
Remarkable that this was ever taken seriously by anyone. Welcome to Atalnta Dan Quinn, you might as well get used to this kind of insanity on a regular basis. Readers of the AJC are not smart enough after all, these years to take it wi a grain of salt. Door Gunner
I could imagine if something like this had happened when Smith was here. TATF would of had many many entertaining post.
JayOzOne
Know it's easy to bash DLed, but, I knew that was joke when I read it. DLed might have assumed that everybody knew it was a joke.I knew that he was joking the first time I read it and wondered how it wound up on PFT, ESPN, CBS Sports, and other 'reputable sites'. But I'm not sure about DLed's understanding of what Quinn said. The whole paragraph is below. From the straightforward way that he reported it, I'm pretty certain he did not think Coach was kidding around.Room for Herschel Walker? One of the businessmen asked Quinn if the Falcons had room for Herschel Walker, who recently said he could still play in the NFL at age 53.“Yes,” Quinn said. “He’s one of my all-time favorite players. Yeah, we have room for him.“For him, the legacy he left at Georgia. . . .He’d definitely fit in great from a competitive standpoint.

Readers of the AJC are not smart enough after all, these years to take it wi a grain of salt.Actually, not surprising at all that Chris Mortensen and ESPN took it seriously. After all, most of their factual reports have to be taken with a grain of salt anyway, along with some Zantec.

FalconFanSince1970
Didn't DLed just quote Quinn's answer to some random question from the audience? I'm sure he knew it was in jest.It worked. TATFers and gullible media types took the bait and ran. ATL Sports Radio talked about it for a week.By the way, we should give Herschel a workout. Whether for clown show or serious look. I bet that mofo can still tote the rock better than all of our backs.

gazoo
The sad part is folks actually believed it. People are gullible.Over and over and over and over and over and over and over again I point out here over the years how the AJC plays its readers like a fiddle with this kind of provocative nonsense, and over and over and over again the same people bite on their bait year in and year out. It's mystifying to me how people don't learn after the 20th or 30th time of being had by them. The latest thing with Blank being the bumbling owner narrative being shattered as nonsense did nothing to abate this.
