If Our Other Wrs Look Good...its Time To Trade Roddy White

Recommended Posts

The title says a lot of it, but let me add some things ok. I really like Roddy a lot. I -want- him on this team, but...as things stand, WR is the strongest part of our team. When you take into consideration that we going to run the ball more (hopefully...that depends on our O Line and D), and we lost HD but added -two- WRs to take HD's place? Then you add in the fact we have two new TEs who we are looking for to increase Toilolo' production? With Roddy's age but his still being able to play, it stands to reason that Roddy's value is still good enough to net our team a third round pick from a team with few vet WRs, maybe a team with a young QB. Or maybe Roddy could be traded for an O lineman, RB or LB. Someone who can help one of the weaker areas of our team. One thing for sure...if Roddy only manages 50 catches for 600 yards, that would be a waste IMHO. That is my thinking, anyway. Trade Roddy while we can get some value for him.

I want us to acquire Mychal Kendricks before camp starts. Alford may be extra/odd man out. Philly is stacked at CB just like MLB though. They need a WR but if we traded Roddy, then we would too. I do think this is Roddy's last year. Too soon to trade him in 2015. His repoire with Ryan will be good for the transition in scheme.

You don't trade a 34 yr old receiver who had been nothing but a class act and has been stated by the owner as someone who will retire a falcon and you sure as **** don't do that while negotiating with Julio Jones on a new contract.. they are like brothers and something's you just don't **** with..

If we were a run oriented team with a stifling defense (top 10 in both) then this would have potential merit.

As it is, the only thing actually good about our team is the passing attack. When it carried our offense we had Julio, Roddy younger, and Tony Gonzalez at TE. We are weaker there now, not stronger.

We brought in a 4th round pick at WR (which most good offensive teams do every year) and have no idea how he's going to be, and brought in a vet WR with injuries and drop problems.

IF our 4th round pick becomes a great player year 1 AND IF our mid tier vet FA pick up over performs.....THEN we'll have 4 decent WRs, which is the minimum you need.

Short version: Taking the only strength of your team and making it a potential weakness is unwise. If we're going to move Roddy, do it next year by picking up a proven vet and a 2nd round WR.

As we stand right now, I dont see the benefit. Brandon Marshall was traded for a fifth round pick so Roddy probably wouldnt yield no more than a sixth or seventh. I may be wrong but I dont think l any team will be willing to trade any prime O-lineman or LB for a 34 year old Roddy. And at this point he is not hurting the cap. It may be worth it to put feelers out there to teams but I dont see any real trade value.

You dare attack one of the last surviving Sacred Cows on our team in front of TATF, the Pope, Oprah Winfrey and the rest of the civilized world? Have you lost touch with reality? Roddy will retire a Falcon. That's written somewhere in stone, but I don't have a link or location, sorry. tongue.png
