MAD597
Wow that is horrible, why do ATL team always screw things up when they are on the verge of something? Horrible decision.

Guest
Basically this just makes me go hmmm, and within 2 years from now.If we don't make the Finals or improve farther, this new ownership is going to feel the wrath of a lot of fans. Me included not saying DF is just the best GM in the league, but what he did here in 3 years he is best All-time in ATL Hawks history. youngbloodz
The racist or to me the stereotyping email he had to read about Luol Deng.he admitted to reading the scouting report. So he is in fact guilty of that
Makaveli96
It had to be done. We are in the heart of the south, so there would have been people criticizing the team if they had kept a GM that made racist remarks. It sucks because Ferry really was a good GM. I'm a black person, and I really never had a problem with him the whole time.

So he is in fact guilty of thatYes I agree, but again just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. I think we'll be okay, but again if in 3 years we don't sniff a championship with all the support behind bud/new ownership etc. I'm just saying anyone would have the right to say told you so. I said in another thread I'd rather Danny Ferry FAIL on his own then get axed like this at least the blow then wouldn't be so bad. Most people have forgotten what DF has done I'm more concerned about Charleston, SC right now, and honestly think most people are.

Plus if we haven't sniffed a title in 3 years, it would be because of poor drafting. Something that wouldn't have changed if Ferry stuck around. This fallacy that you can build a Spurs east while being God awful at drafting is getting out of hand. Spurs are the best drafting team, perhaps ever. AF89
Danny Ferry has alot of the same qualities everyone gets so frustrated at TD for. Excellent at starting a trade dialogue, and not a bad cap manager either but an inconsistent draft evaluator.

Excellent at starting a trade dialogue, and not a bad cap manager either but an inconsistent draft evaluator. People give credit to Ferry for learning from the Spurs front office, and rightfully so. But there's only one person on the planet that knows how to recreate the Spurs more than Bud. And that's Pop. I just find it funny. Half of hawk fans in Atlanta were praising Ferry for creating Spurs east, but act like now that he's gone were ruined. Ummmm, the guy who can build Spurs east is still around.Side note. Just realized Bud and pop share a nickname that's 3 letters and a very common name. Destiny!
Bawse
We're still in good hands but realistically we'd be in even better hands with Ferry still here. I fear our new GM and also fear that Bud getting this President spot may put too much pressure on him. I really hope not.

Was fired as head assistant for the Spurs. Came back 2 years later as GM. Fired the coach after a poor start and named himself HC. They then went 20-62. Thats pressure. slamee101
For the record, I don't really think Danny Ferry is racist. That said, how do you prove someone isn't racist? I keep hearing he "just read" the scouting report but he's the GM of an NBA franchise. You want me to believe that he hadn't read the scouting report UNTIL that meeting? I doubt that. He felt comfortable repeating it if you ask me. Ultimately I think this is more about Ferry rubbing people the wrong way, not being a 'Nique fan, being a bit arrogant, etc. We've seen people found innocent in court and people just don't buy it so this investigation ultimately doesn't mean a ton either. tl;dr
Other than Schroeder, Ferry's drafts sucked. Jenkins, Nog, and Payne. Two of those players aren't even on the team anymore, and one of them won't be before long. Ferry managed our cap very well, but I'm not sure how much more he could have done. Hopefully Bud and Wilcox can pull in a guy like Gasol this offseason. Teague/Schroeder, Gasol and Horford would be nasty.
