Roddy White: We Won’T Be Throwing The Ball 35-40 Times A Game

The Falcons have a new offensive coordinator in Kyle Shanahan and one of the players on the unit provided a hint about how they’ll be trying to move the ball this season.

According to wide receiver Roddy White, the offense won’t be as reliant as throwing the ball as they were last season. The Falcons were third in the league with 39.5 attempts per game last season and White expects that number to drop significantly in 2015.

“We’re not going to be passing 35-40 times a game,” White said, via D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

That may well be the plan, but the Falcons are going to have to be a lot more effective running the ball than they were last year if they are going to cut down on the size of the roles that White, Julio Jones and Matt Ryan play in the offense. Their ability to do that will rely heavily on Devonta Freeman and rookie Tevin Coleman in the backfield as well as the play of an offensive line that didn’t make too many significant changes in personnel from last season.

Oh crap not this again.

What isn't that good and more balance is good.

Im not sure our Oline or RB`s are ready to be that much a role. Yes most where half dead the last 2 years. But those things didnt make Smith popular either. Smith haters will be licking their chops trying to go run heavy. When it works it works good. But it hasnt worked for us in 2 years and thats why we ended up pass heavy.

The Falcons averaged 39.5 pass attempts per game last year, third-most in the league. Unless third-round pick Tevin Coleman emerges, Atlanta's running game should be just as stagnant as it was in 2014. Though White might disagree, we expect Atlanta to rely heavily on the pass again this season. Perhaps White was hinting at his own reduced role in the offense. White mentioned previously he's "not worried" about how many targets he gets.

You're right. Jackson was done. He just wanted 1 last payday. The line was horrendous. But that was injuries.

We never really had much luck running vs the South teams. We have to stay competitive in the South before we do anything else.

Tammy will never admit to anything positive about Dallas.

bottom line

we were much more consistant playing winning football when we ran the ball more, all the great stats for Ryan and the WRs are nice, but i would much rather be winning games, if teams have to start playing the run first vs us again, this O will be almost unstoppable , I think we all know that....

as far as saying anything good about Cowboys

they had a good yr last yr....

I am just glad we have a guy like J Jones, and not a guy like Dez or D Thomas who are all about getting paid.... J Jones was 1 of the first guys to show up for OTAs and was a guest speaker at the SOF last week, he knows hes gonna get paid, and should be paid, he dont have to threaten to hold out ....

He is has one year left...and is not talking about holding out at all.

Btw...Rave, not sure what you are trying to prove, this years don't matcharrow-10x10.png up for comparison purposes...

Those are playoff years. Apparently Romo is nothing without a running game, but neith QB made it to the playoffs without a running game. If you would have read the entire post you would have seen that.

And if Julio is the first to sign he'd be the first to set the market (which is what the franchised wide outs are waiting for) and I guarantee you his agent will make sure it's not as team friendly as you think because that contract is going to be what a lot of guys will be operating off of.

yeah I see no way Julio goes home town discount. It might be a million or two in savings over the entire contact. But it won't be much.

What running game did Dallas have in 2007...2009...I'll wait...ignorance is bliss.

Ryan hasn't been to the playoffs without a running game.

Dallas had 2103 rushing yards in 2009. Atlanta only broke 2000 once Turner's first year in Atlanta. Dallas averaged more rushing yards than Atlanta in the sample you provided and Romo never led his team anywhere near 13 wins with less than 1400 rushing yards. Your argument is being refuted by your own stats...thanks

Neither QB has led his team anywhere without a running game. That is irrefutable.

Under a 100 yards a game is pathetic and below the league average per team

So...if Ryan was indeed the hero of 2012 (not having Gonzo, Roddy, and JJ)...then who is to blame in 2014 when they had a better running game, but a losing record?

Atlanta averaged 94 yards rushing a game last year.
