quickzero
How many backs will we carry (including the fb)? I ask because Im thinking we carry five. Coleman, Freeman, Smith, Ward, and Mooney. If those are our backs I say we have one of the best running back groups in the league. Im also high on ward after watching his highlights. GrimeyKidd
Realistically we have always carried 4 rbs and 1 fb. I can see 3 rbs and 1 fb this year though. Use extra spot to keep another OL

AtlantaFanatic
Not sure I agree with you on your perspective of how good our RB corps is. Neither of our RB's are really proven. Even Smith hasn't ever been a workhorse or even close to it.
Romfal
5, but I havent seen anything from Ward to make me believe he will be on the 53. Last guy might not even be on the roster.
B_Lo_Touchdowns
Lol one of the best in the league? Who on our roster has accomplished anything. Highlight tapes don't tell you how good a player is or gonna be, stop using them as a metric.
ki46dinah
We have one of the most unproven backfields in the NFL...it has some speed no doubt...but no real beef, if that is important at all.
FentayeJones
I dont think Shanny has ever carried more than 3RBs+1FB on the 53. If you carry 5RBs you have to take a roster spot from another position. Which position is going to take the hit?
delaigle
Let's seeColeman-- 0 experience in the NFLWard -------0 experience in the NFLJerome Smith --1 year on a PSFreeman --1 year experience in the NFL as the #3 RBAntone Smith--5 years experience in the NFL BUT only used as an RB for the last 2 years (1 carry in his first 3 years)DiMarco --2 years experience in the NFLMooney-- basically 2 years experience in the NFL

Lornoth
I would like to see 5 including the FB, because Tone isn't really up to a normal load of carries so we don't have much cushion for injury if we only have him and the other two on the team. They may just run with 4 and keep a guy on PS or something in case of emergency though, I'm not sure there's a guy on the team good enough to necessarily warrant that 5'th RB spot. Even Smith hasn't ever been a workhorse or even close to it. The potential is there...I believe we will get a mess load of touchdowns this season; rushing and receiving. It al starts with the runningbacks. We are deep there.

AtlantaFanatic
I agree, we have a lot of if's in our stable of runningbacks. I wouldn't mind signing Ben Tate or Moreno for insurance.Although I wouldn't hate it if we signed Tate (Moreno is just too old and hurt), I say lets just roll with what we have. We know that Freeman didn't completely suck given his minimal opportunities last year and the worst case scenario is that none of our RB's really pan out that well. I consider this a rebuilding year anyway for offense and defense so to me, this season is mostly finding out what our real weaknesses and strengths are so we can start making a serious SuperBowl push next year. Let's roll with what we have and re-evaluate at the end of the season.
Hashbrown3
Just stay as young as possible at RB. We can hold one on the practice squad too. Much will depend on who balls out in training camp at all positions. Praying injuries won't pile up this year.
blizzard_falcon
Kyle Shanahan has historically carried just four backs: 3 tailbacks and 1 fullback. He's done that in Houston, in Washington, and in Cleveland.Based on that, I'd agree with the poster who thinks we'll roll into the season with Freeman, Coleman, Smith, and Mooney. However, I could see us keeping a fourth tailback, someone situated more for a short-yardage and power back role... I'm just not sure anyone on the roster really fits that role. Terron Ward could be the dark horse there.
