Koetter Making Smart Choices With The Bucs?

PewterReports' Scott Reynolds said Doug Martin stayed with the Bucs because new OC Dirk Koetter "wanted him back."

Bucs GM Jason Licht mentioned in a radio interview earlier this offseason Koetter liked what he saw from Martin on tape. Though Lovie Smith and the front office appear ready to move on from the oft-injured running back, Martin may have found an ally in Koetter. Martin will battle second-year RB Charles Sims for lead duties in training camp.
I gotta agree with Koetter here. Its worth the position battle to keep him.
Im surprised Lovie would wanna throw him away so fast.

Lovie wanted a RB that could catch the ball outta the backfield, which is why they drafted Simms in the 3rd round last season, but the problem is, other than Simms being able to catch, he's not all that great. Licht has to quit allowing Lovie to make these type of decisions.

I can see Marting having a decent bounce back season, if Lovie allows him to.

Of course Koetter would want a RB who can catch out the backfield. But Lovie she allow him to get in there and see what he has. We know Koetter loves his screens. But you still need a RB to do other things. Nothing else a competition should bring out the best in them and see who wants it more. I believe if martin stay healthy he will be payoff for keeping him.
