So What Do Y'all Think About Our Redzone Offense?

I definitely think our redzone offense should improve. JJ will get used more, and the ZBS should help out hugely. In the past few years when the other team suspected we were going to run they just overpowered us completely, hopefully they won't be able to do that this year. I think Kyle will utilize our TE's to much greater effect in the redzone this year as well, he likes to use his TE's.

And it should be noted we were #6 in redzone efficiency last year, so we were pretty good despite all those issues. We could be #1 or 2 this year.

This is an area I expect dramatic improvement (though our efficiency in the RZ was ranked top 10 last year IIRC). But there was so much wrong with us. First, we never ran the ball, so we had no threat of it. Teams would throw 6 in the box and even if we did run, they stopped it. This left a lot of DB's to stay in coverage, making an already difficult job for Matt (no threat of run game) more difficult. Throw in the injuries all over the line. Also, Riley Cooper received more targets in the endzone than julio. Yeah that's never happening again, so there's another improvement.

The ZBS hides intentions well. No longer will it be painfully obvious when we plan to run. This makes Matt's job easier. The bootlegs and rollouts will also help. The threat of this forces the backside safety to freeze, helping the run game. Better run game, better results. Better run game, easier passing game as teams are forced to respect the threat of the run. Teams respecting the run means less guys in coverage, meaning more julio and more TD's

It is a concern, and with the new extra point rules, and potential to see a lot more 2 point conversions, having a strong short yardage/red zone package will be key in close games. I'm really excited about this offense, but I would like to see a big bruiser added to alleviate that concern.

I think that will change this year for sure.

I agree. Hankerson is a tall target, and Hardy is great in traffic I think having 2 legit pass catching TEs in Tamme, and Moeaki will be a big help too. They aren't world beaters, but talented enough to keep defenses honest, and hopefully be enough of a concern to open things up for the run game, even if our RBs are a little undersized.

IF the Oline can be average this offense can be special. The Oline was average for games 1,3,8-15 last year. I have a feeling we will average a touchdown more just because of red zone efficiency.

As far as red zone offense goes:

Hardy > Douglas

Hankerson > Hester

Tamme / Moeaki > Toilolo

The passing offense down inside the 20 should be much better, and I bet Shanahan will target Julio in the red zone a lot more often, too.

I'm not so sure about the run game's effectiveness on the goal line and in short yardage situations, but I'm hoping Freeman/Coleman can prove me wrong.

I mean, our offense wasn't really built to be a goal line/red zone dominant offense. It was supposed to mimic the greatest show on turf for the most part and have SJax as a battering ram and running threat. The new incarnation has Tamme who I have been a fan of for a long time. Still, I'll have a clue come preseason. I hate the way the offense is set up, but it is what it is.
