AndySG
Konz was a huge disappointment. Baker was kinda what you expect from a late first rounder. Holmes is lazy. Johnson was always injured. We haven't invested THAT much in it, considering how much of a weakness it has been for so long.

Oldskooler
TD gets the heat, and rightfully so. As the GM he is ultimately responsible. But the real question is this: who is the scout assigned to scout college o-linemen? I hope TD has given this guy a fun and exciting opportunity to explore new vistas of opportunity. Sponge
Konz was considered a good pick since he came from Wisconsin, which is known for it's Olinemen. Can't blame TD for that. Baker, when healthy, is a good player. No one could predict his injury history.
eastside_bird
But but but another thread says our oline is decent. We have depth and contract years and matthews champion bloodline and zone blocking and PFF is wrong and who needs a guard and blah blah blah. The line is mediocre and homers won't admit it
Kaptain Krazy
Two 1st rounds picks, one who was just a rookie, so too early to evaluate. Baker has had one good season, multiple injury-riddled seasons - he has not been a great value for a 1st round OL.Konz was the highest rated Center on the board, a position of need for the Falcons, and came from a system known for OL. He has been abysmal, a bad value for a 2nd round pick.Everyone else was the crapshoot you get from selecting OL in later rounds. Other than trading back up into the 1st round to get Baker, the Falcons have not really shown much fervor in trying to upgrade the OL. Lots of mid-round picks and FA afterthoughts. And the results have matched that level of focus.

Baker, when healthy, is a good player. No one could predict his injury history.Konz was actually an excellent pick at the time that just didn't work out. It happens to the best GMs. By most accounts he was the best interior lineman in the draft that year. Konz is the premier center in this year's draft, and his selection will likely be solely based off team needs towards the end of the first round. He has a massive frame for the center position but has impressive knee bend, which allows him to play the position effectively. He made all the calls at the line and was the centerpiece of a dominant Wisconsin line loaded with NFL size and talent - NFL.com Edited May 25, 2015 by FentayeJones

falconsd56
Ehh just like everything people have blown the failures out of proportion.Baker when healthy has been solid... rock solid.... and it was more than for just one season. His rookie year he was the best rookie tackle in the game... even better than Jake Long.in 09 injuries happened more and even then he played OK. he was good in 2010 but really really struggled in 2011 but bounced back with what should have been a probowl year in 2012, and 2013 was a copy of 2011.Konz played well as rookie guard, when he was between 2 vets.. and then struggled his sophomore year playing next to a bad guard in Reynolds ... but even then he was not near as bad as people make him out to be... He bounced back and in limited time played MUCH better last year.Holmes was a 3rd round project...... EVERYONE who understands football knows this......... he struggled his first year with conditioning and weight... much like MANY rookie linemen do.... he came back last year and before he got hurt there were times he looked like our best lineman... he looked like everything you want in a tackle.Hawley has played well the last couple of years when given the chance..... he has been a good pick over all for a 4th rounder.Johnson just could not catch a break in terms of health.in 2013 we also had a major Scheme misfit ( much like we did on defense last year)...This place tends to take things to the extremes..... they severely overrate the good and bad players do. ryanadonis
Holmes = HORRIBLEKonz = TERRIBLEMike Johnson = LAUGHABLE Joe Hawley = Steal of the draft. Best Center this team has seen in franchise history. Easily Future Hall of Famer. Great Years the past couple of years when given the Chance. Was FANTASTIC last year. PERFECT fit for ZBS. Is the TOUGHEST guy on the team. Dominates anyone in front of him and can run sideline to sideline better than anyone. Healthy and Reliable every year. Team wins with him on the field. Fantastic road grader/pass protector. Will be seeing the biggest contract ever given to a Center after this year. 2 year contract given to Joe after his rookie contract expired was just extra money to give but next year he will receive a Tyron Smith deal. VERY Lucky Joe Hawley dropped to us in the 4th round that year, could easily be a top 5 first round pick. Phenomenal athlete. Intimidating presence on the field. Better than Nick Mangold and WAY better than any other Center that has come around in the past 100 years. Tough break for his ACL and will miss OTA's but the starting spot is signed sealed and delivered for him and he doesn't have to compete with anyone because he is that good. He is the Matt Ryan/Julio Jones of the offensive line. VERY VERY lucky to have this player. TD and Smitty Knocked it out of the park with this pick. I would rather pick Joe Hawley instead of Matt Ryan in the 08 draft if he came out that year. I would have made the Julio Jones trade to trade up for Joe Hawley if he came out that year. I really hope the Falcons have the cap space to re sign Joe Hawley for the next 10 plus years.

JayOzOne
4-12 and 6-10 back to back losing seasons indicate there are a lot of serious issues to work through and the offensive line is one of them. OL is the most likely reason we won't have a good season. Unlike most, I think our OL development (in addition to a horrible number of injuries the last two seasons) is the culprit more than the players we have. That being said, I doubt that the damage can be undone. Am I the only one hoping that Rodgers is a diamond in the rough and might actually play a lot this season?
