ki46dinah
So, why hasn't Mooney played since 2013?I like Mooney a lot, but EXACTLY.People are very delusional...they think any and every new signing is always in a position to unseat veterans(see comments about Weemy for the last decade).Only thing I found odd....Dimarco calls Mooney a "kid" when Mooney is 3 years older and served in the Armed Services for years prior. You dont call someone who could strangle the life from you a "kid".
Common Sense
If DiMarco makes this team, we're worse off then we originally feared.
Beef
DiMarco doesn't stand a chance. He's 240 and runs a 4.92 and can't catch.Mooney is 245, runs a 4.65, and can catch. And he might even be a better blocker too. But he fits Shannahan's offense 10x better since he's actually an offensive threat as well. And he can get down the field on kickoffs and punt defense way faster too. So this is a no-brainer.Sorry DiMarco, but I'm afraid your days are numbered. We won't have two FB's on the 53 come opening day. Edited May 17, 2015 by Beef

Blocking is what I want from a FB first and foremost. This team can get a lot more done with a battering ram than one that has a fast 40 and great hands. TheFatboi
I just want a FB that can push whoever he's engaged with backwards. Not clog the point of contact because that's not good for a RB. It gets In his way. Just get us a smart battering ram and call it a day. The ability to catch is just a bonus. I coukd care less how great a FB can catch. If he can catch better than he blocks he's useless for this system. Think about it this way...If the line does their job in an outside zone run but a lb keeps pushing the FB into the RB or the FB stops at the point of contact that's a short gain or a loss of yardage when, if he makes the block pushing the lb backwards, that short gain turns into a big gain and/or a touchdown. That simple. Find a battering ram for this system. There are battering rams out there. If mooney is a battering ram and is smart like Ovie was in his setups then let's go. I'm tired of the FB being a part of the running woes. I know many of you blamed the line but the FB was responsible for many runs that stopped at the los. His job first and foremost is to BLOCK! You're FB should only be used in the passing game to catch a defense off guard. Especially when you have more than enough rb's that can run actual routes and catch. You don't know the true value of a good FB until he's gone. RIP Ovie's blocking. Bob Christian opened holes as well. So did Griffiths. GET US ANOTHER BATTERING RAM!! PS the FB's that make the pro bowls usually are the FB's from the best running teams every year. Im ready to be amongst the top runninh teams again. Getting down the field fast and tackling the ball returner is also an important job. 4.65 vs 4.92 is a HUGE difference in speed. If Mooney can block just as good as DiMarco, then like I said, this is a no-brainer.
