Korver Wtf?

I had heard he is a playoff choker before but gees he has probably been the cause of our close games in the playoffs. 0-7? He has got to get his head together if we have any chance against the Cavs.

Trust me man Korver may not have gotten his shots off, but he does MORE than that same with the rest of these guys that's why I'm not even on their cases anymore.

IF they get to the Finals...................I won't say anything this will be the BEST HAWKS TEAM EVER!!!!

3 of those 7 shots were forced. I'm fine with Kyle not shooting much with how Washington was playing him. The spacing he provides is still essential to what we do on offense. I expect him to have plenty of non-contested looks against Cleveland. He won't have to work as hard on both ends as well too.

He did have some key defensive stops (like stripping PP in the final moments of Game 5) and overall has played very well defensively. If he can follow that up with getting his 3 point shot back, that will be a nightmare come true for the Cavs.

The only value I get out of DFS games is that they remind me what guys are doing when they are not scoring. Korver didn't score enough. He has to score more in the finals. However, he did a lot that no one paid attention to in the last series. He had steals, blocks, assists, rebounds. On top of that, he was the focus of the oppositions defense. If our opponents build their defense around accounting for Korver...I'm not sure that is a bad thing.

All that said, do the Cavs have a Beal equivalent defender? I'm not an NBA fan. I'm just an Atlanta fan. My knowledge of the Cavs stops and starts at Lebron James. That said..I don't even know what number he wears.

The Cavs best shot at defending KK is Shump... But he is terrible offensively. So that's 1 less man we gotta worry about.

PS Lebron wears 23

I posted this on the other thread, but it is probably more appropriate here.

Watch the highlight video (ESPN) and look for Carroll's basket it the last minute that put the Hawks up by four. It is absurd, funny, and a perfect illustration why Korver is so important and was plus 16.

http://espn.go.com/v...startTime=01:33

On the first play, in which the Hawks take the lead, Korver's man stays on Korver even as Walls leave Carroll to step up to pick up Teague coming down the open lane. Carroll slides behind Walls and takes a nice touch pass from Teague for an easy bucket. Coach Bud talks about Korver, even when he isn't involved in the play, essentially creates a four on four game, and that was a good illustration.

But the 2nd play, that gives the Hawks a four point lead, is as extraordinary as it is hilarious: Teague has the ball inside the perimeter at the wing. Korver is again camped out near the base line on the FAR perimeter, his man camping with him. Walls is again on Carroll but is too focused on the ball and lets Carroll slide behind him to the lane (which is again wide open due to the Hawks spacing.)

Now comes the fun part: Korver's man sees Carroll sliding to the open lane and leaves Korver to pick up Carroll. It is what he has been trained to do since Pee Wee basketball. You can't just leave a guy unguarded under the basket!!

But Teague makes a move towards Korver/Carroll's side, but still on the opposite side. Suddenly, the guy who slid with Carroll remembers what the Wizzards coach has been DRILLING him with for the past two weeks: NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER leave Korver alone at the perimeter!!!! Teague helps by 1) his movement towards Korver's side of the court and 2) he is looking towards Korver rather than Carroll. (I think, it is a little hard to tell.)

And Korver's man ABANDONS Carroll, the Hawks playoff MVP and leading scorer, leaving him all alone under the basket. He sprints straight back out to Korver, who is 0-7 on the night, in a HUGE shooting slump, and in a more difficult position to receive a pass from Teague. (Watch it over and over like I have and it gets more comical every time.) Teague makes a brilliant read and executes the simple pass to Carroll who makes another easy shot. Walls, who inexplicably let Carroll walk by and forcing Korver's guy into no man's land, is not pleased.

Series!

(Now, even though he's in a shooting slump, Korver has hit HUGE three's in the final few minutes of at least two of the Hawks wins this series, so it makes sense to have someone guarding him. But it is pure basketball absurdity to leave Carroll alone to do it.)

I know. But I'm positive this series won't be as defensive as the last series. I see JR defending Korver for the majority of the time

Yes Im sure the Cavs will put a bad defender on our best shooter.....

It's not a matter of good/bad defender for them IMO... It's who has the hot hand in ATL. Which we've seen in previous series that teams like to stick to guys who are Rollin when they get minutes... Looking at you Alan Anderson and Jarrett Jack.

I'm willing to give Beal and Porter some credit for the way they played Korver. Didn't have a ton of open looks. Washington clearly said they're not going to let him kill them with the 3 ball.

That said, he still missed some open looks that you want/expect him to hit and there were some moments where he seemed to panic and made some critical mistakes. I'm hoping he's over it though and I expect him to have a much better series against Cleveland.
