Quinn, a defensive line coach by trade, has a plan for second-year tackle Ra’Shede Hageman.

“We’re going to feature (Hageman) as an inside three-technique (the person who played some of that position in Seattle was Tony McDaniel),” Quinn said. “Then we are going to have Tyson (Jackson) at our five-technique. He’ll play there a lot. Cliff Matthews is another one that has jumped out to me.”

D-Led said Coach Quinn singled out Hageman, Holmes, Worrilow, and Cliff Matthews has some guys who has stood out so far (its early)

Quinn last year discussing the seahawks D

“Our end and nose and tackle are our three big guys,’’ Quinn said. “So we are half 4-3, half 3-4. They have to be big enough and stout enough to play the run, and then when we go into nickel is when we move a guy like Bennett to defensive tackle or Bruce (Irvin) to a defensive end spot.’

Reports has been we are kicking Clayborn to the inside on some rushing downs.... During ond of his Chuck Smith videos... Chuck was telling him about techniques when rushing from the inside

But Tyson needs to be cut according to most here....

He will be a 2 down guy ..... ill be honest .. it doesnt make sense to cut him.. he is not making enough and the cap savings is not enough to cut him ... Let him be a 2 down guy.

Next year is a different story tho .... making 6.3 mil is different.... But this year his salary is on the lower side.

Next year is a different story tho .... Especially if Cliff really impress

we dont need the money, no sense in cutting him unless he just sucks. I'm really interested to see the front 7 rotations.

He better not sniff the field on obvious passing downs. So in theory he is a 2 down guy, but against pass heavy teams he should be off the field. And people are running the nickel a lot now anyways so i don't see him playing a whole lot of snaps.

Me to... Coach Quinn clearly have his setup that will face the run and his pass rush package...

Thats the one problem ive had with our last coaching staff ... I felt like we would over use a guy like Babs.. I would see him wear down.... Get a good rotation and use your guys towards there strengths

It similar to how they used Red Bryant ... Thats the reason why the Jags cut him also.... For a reasonable price a 2 down guy is good but that price cant get to high

Four of the board's favourite punching bags. It'll be interesting to see what people start saying about them this year.

$5m per for a two-down adequate against the run/suks against the pass guy makes sense to you?

He is making 3.8 mil this year...... cutting him this year would save about 2 mil but next year his hit will be 4.8 mil.

It just wouldnt do alot of good.... ... Next year his cap hit is 6.3 mil ... if we cut him as a june 1st cut next year we would save 4.7 mil in cap space.

Let the man play his part this year

It really woukdnt matter if he's in or not on passing downs because the rush will be Coming from the SLB on the strong side usually. All he has to do is hold point like he did for my cousin in KC.

It definitely would matter when there are other guys who provide more of a pass rush than him. Its why Seattle took most of their bigs out.

This is bad news for Babineaux, honestly. With Babs, Hageman, and Jarrett, that's 3 players that are predominantly 3-tech's. And I'm kind of doubtful that we keep three 3-tech's on the roster. Jarrett can log some backup snaps as an undersized 1-tech to Soliai, and if that's the case then that would help in keeping all 3 of those guys on the roster. But it might come down to a 3-way competition for 2 roster spots in camp with those 3 guys. We'll want to have at least 3 players with the ability to rotate into the inside pass rushing DT roles on 3rd and long's - and 4 would be better to help in case of injuries. Right now those potential players are Hageman, Babs, Jarrett, Clayborn, and I guess from what Quinn said perhaps even Matthews. You would think Hageman and Clayborn will make the roster. That might leave Babs and Jarrett fighting for one of those spots. And the loser of that battle might be in a fight with Matthews for one final roster spot. Since Matthews can backup at 5-tech and excells on special teams, that might give him a leg up on a spot over a 3rd 3-tech - if we even keep that many big bodied D Linemen.

Quinn saying that about Tyson should hopefully put an end to this nonsense about Jackson getting cut this year and/or not being a scheme fit. "Going to have Tyson at our five-technique. He'll play there a lot." Pretty much definitively ends any debate.

That makes our projected starting D Line from strongside to weakside as follows: SLB - Reed, 5-tech DE - Jackson, 1-tech NT - Soliai, 3-tech DT - winner of Hageman/Babs/Jarrett battle, LEO - Beasley. ( I included the SLB because he's almost always walked up on the line of scrimmage as a stand-up OLB.)

D-Led said Coach Quinn singled out Hageman, Holmes, Worrilow, and Cliff Matthews as some guys who has stood out so far (its early) Kind of surprised about Matthews. But I did comment about him on my spreadsheet that every year he looks like a longshot for the roster, yet every year he keeps hanging around. Must be for a reason I guess.

Chuck was telling him about techniques when rushing from the inside (I thought this was already fairly common knowledge? To me I envision at least half of his snaps coming as an inside DT in nickel situations - perhaps much more than half.
