Winston, Beasley among rookies who can succeed early

2. Vic Beasley, OLB, Atlanta Falcons (No. 8 overall pick)

The Falcons have been terrible at getting after the quarterback the past few seasons, and in 2014, they pressured opposing quarterbacks on just 22 percent of dropbacks (29th in the league) and sacked QBs on just 3.89 percent of passing attempts (31st in the league). Beasley could help fix the problem, as he has what new Falcons coach Dan Quinn is looking for out of his edge rushers from both a character and skill standpoint. Quinn wants to construct what he had in Seattle from his pass rush, and Beasley can play the same type of role as Chris Clemons did in 2013 and Cliff Avril (base defense) and Bruce Irvin (sub-packages and nickel) did in 2014.

Yes, Beasley needs to play with better strength against the run on first and second downs, and yes, he needs to develop a consistent power/bull rush component to his game that complements his unique set of speed and finesse pass-rush skills. But in Quinn, a former D-line coach, and current D-line coach Bryan Cox, he has two coaches capable of developing the physical, power component to his game. Look for Beasley, barring injury, to be a force to be reckoned with in his rookie season coming off the edge on third down.

I think that by year 3 Quinn and Cox will have turned him into a monster.

im excited to see what our Line can develop into ... Shede,Beasley, and Jarrett in the future ... We actually see some young talent.. Now its just about development .

Then you have a guy in Adrian Clayborn... He is only 26 years old... Can he stay healthy and show something ... Its definitly a good sign he is working out with Chuck Smith...

Yeah I was picturing what 3 years down the road will look like and It gets me excited. With what we have now developing and all the certain new additions we are actually going to have a pass rush in the ATL again!

3 years???? Oh come on now, if he doesn't have double digit sacks by the bye this year, you know there are people here who will call him a bust.......

See I don't pay those people any attention. Pretty much anyone who doesn't understand NFL development is not worth explaining it to them. Especially with pass rushers.

Winston has the unfortunate handicap of being a Buc, though.

Ehhh, I wouldn't mind throwing to Evans and VJax as a rookie.

Yep, both Watt and Justin Houston, the two pass rushers to break 20 sacks this last year, had only 5.5 sacks in each of their rookie years. I can think of a few "mofos" who would have either wanted them cut or called them busts after their first year here.

I love the subtlety. :wiggle:

I do not care for Winston as a person at all but I fear he is going to be the real deal as a QB....reminds me of a young Favre.....

He's talented as heck, that's for sure. People trying to act like he's going to be another Scam Newton are in for a disappointment...as a passer, he's worlds better.

Could still bomb. Hopefully will. But I'm not betting on it.

No way he busts, he may not be a perennial All Pro but he is not going to be complete chit either.........sad.png
