JDaveG
I don't know about that, largely because so much depends on Gurley recovering quickly and staying healthy. It's not really fair if he plays 8 games versus 16, and in that scenario, I'd wager Coleman has about 800 yards more instead of 300.But if Gurley can contribute starting, say, week 3, and is back to full speed by then? Who knows. The kid is a ridiculous talent. I don't think anyone has ever denied that. Coleman is pretty amazing, too, but there's a reason Gurley went no. 10 overall and Coleman slipped to the 3rd round. It isn't just that he played at a small school, etc. Gurley has an elite combination of size, speed, power and athleticism. It's one reason he keeps getting hurt, but when healthy, he's on another level entirely.I still wouldn't have drafted him at no. 8 for this team, even if he hadn't blown out his knee. He's a luxury we couldn't afford. But I wouldn't bet on Coleman out performing him if everything else is equal. He could do so just based on our scheme -- we'll run the ball a lot. But Coleman is going to split time with Freeman and Smith, whereas I expect Gurley will be the bellcow in St. Louis/Los Angeles.

But I still think Gurley gets a higher percentage of carries than Coleman. And I think Coleman will have better YPC production, etc., simply because he'll be running into open space (if he can read a defense, which remains to be seen -- he's used to running into brick walls). north falcon
Bold prediction about Gurley - he's a RB so he's not really a big deal.
paulitik
I'm ecstatic about Tevin Coleman, but you need to stop. Gurley is a beast, he deserves all the respect he gets, and just because a lot of UGA fans wanted their favorite player on their favorite NFL team, doesn't take anything away from Gurley., He's still the best offensive player in this draft. Coleman is a nice consolation prize, and maybe he has a better season. Who knows? Scheme, schedule, and dozens of other variables will determine that. I'm over it, it's time for you Gurley haters to get over it too.

Guest Gritz
Put me down in the camp who doesn't care if Coleman out rushes Gurley or vice versa...I'm a Georgia fan so I want to see Gurley do well as a Ram (until they play the Falcons).Since Coleman is now a Falcon I want to see him do well EVERY WEEK.It's all about the uni and team colors to me.The rest of you guys can complicate it all you want. It's 'GO FALCONS' and every other team kick rocks. Is it UGA "homerism" that is causing so many people to be so upset that we didn't draft Gurley at 8? I'm a UGA Grad and I definitely think Beasley was the 100% correct pick at 8. The drop off between Beasley and whomever we could have gotten in the 3rd round to rush the passer is so much greater than the drop off between Gurley and Coleman. We got so much better value in a bigger position of need. I just don't understand what all the crying is about.

DoYouSeeWhatHappensLarry
Gurley can play as soon as he's healthy.Coleman can play but he's got developing to do. You know who I think WILL out produce Gurley (assuming he doesnt get hurt)? Ameer Abdullah.

I had Beasley higher on my round one big board up until the day before the draft when Gurley moved ahead of him. Even so he was only slightly ahead, so I'm happy with the Beasley pick. I definitely disagree with your statement about the drop off from Beasley to the other edge rushers though. We could have gone Gurley, Gregory and Diggy in the first three rounds. There aint much drop off from Beasley to a GregoryDiggy combo. If any at all. Those guys play the run much better and can get after the QB. Happy with the draft, but would have been happier with that scenario.
jimifalcon
I am just happy that a couple guys I wanted in the last 2 drafts went elsewhere, cory lemoniere is still not producing for the niners and as big a beast as clowney was,he got hurt as well.I am happy with Tevin and really expected Gurley to drop into the 2nd because of injuries.great draft for us. Happy with the draft, but would have been happier with that scenario.Still doesn't make sense to me. Currently we got this in our first 3 rounds:1st: Beasley - Probable 6+ sacks as a rookie with 12+ sacks/yr ceiling. Elite Talent. Game changing Pass-Rush potential.2nd: Collins - #2 corner talent. Probable will develop into #1 corner talent. Quality Starter that could develop into shut-down corner.3rd: Coleman - #1 RB Talent. Probable 1,000+ yd runner once develops. Quality Starter that could develop into Game Changing Elite Back.you want:1st: Gurley - Elite runner with injury history. Probable 1200+ yds runner if stays healthy. Elite Talent if Healthy. Game changing back potential.2nd: Gregory - Rush OLB with INSANELY LARGE Red Flags. Could develop into 10+ sack/yr guy or could be out of the league in 4-5 years. Worse issues with holding POA and setting edge as Beasley plus the fact that he was extremely late for some team interviews and outright skipped others. REALLY? You want this guy?3rd: Odighizuwa - Big, long-armed DE with limited Pass-rush Potential. Nowhere near immediate starter material. Would likely be our next JA98. You want this guy too?We got 3 players at positions that should be immediate starters with the potential to develop into Elite players and you'd rather have a Possible Elite Player with a HUGE boom/Bust pass Rusher, and the Next JA98? I don't get it. Edited May 4, 2015 by dfsutton
