Hawks/wizards Game 1 Thread

I dont know if it will matter, but last year the Wizards won their first round series in 5 games while the Pacers went 7 games. Pacers then beat the Wizards in six games.

The whole rest thing is overrated. We locked up the No.1 seed a month before the regular season was over, and came out rusty in the first couple of games in this past series. Wizards just got a week or so off. Regardless of what the circumstances are, I'm not worried about the Wizards. They are a good team and the series will probably go at least 6 games, but even when they're at their best they've had trouble stopping us. Wall for whatever reason turns into a turnover machine when he plays us. We'll see how he does in this series.

why am i not surprised the Bulls/Cavs get longer rest than the Hawks? Bulls series went 6, they played on Thurs .. but for some reason they don't have to play until Monday

*not that I'm disappointed we play Sunday (keep the momentum from last night going) I just shouldn't be surprised those 2 teams were scheduled like that

Think about it like this tho... If we was to win the serie in 5 and theirs stretches out to a game 7 then that gives us loads of time to prepare.

I expect this to be over in 4 or 5. All the pundits want to hype the Wizards for beating the Raptors, but let's be real, Raptors were made for the regular season:

1. They have a weak bench

2. A coach who doesn't adjust (which you need to do playing the same team again and again)

3. No dominant superstar

4. Streaky shooters

5. No offensive system. The Hawks have no superstar either but they run great offensive sets. The Raptors have neither.

6. Inconsistent defense

7. No leadership

It shouldn't surprise anyone they got beat so handily.

WAS is a great matchup for us. Their bigs are slow and unskilled, their wings are nonathletic, and Beal is inconsistent. Only player to worry about is Wall, who has been outplayed by Jeff every time they went up against eachother this year. Not too concerned now that we are rounding into form.

I think we'll have at least one game where we struggle, and it won't be so smooth a series that we won't have a another major freak out or two. Maybe even dropping 1 of our 1st two home games, (though taking both obviously would be huge). But for all the reasons Willy Mo mentioned this is a series we should win. Hawks in 6.

Hmm, don't agree with these points. Gortat and Nene are pretty good. They can hit mid-range jumpers and they're decent passers. Pierce is old but still savvy enough to get around, and Otto Porter is more athletic than you think, but nothing Carroll or Bazemore shouldn't be able to handle. You may have a point with Beal, but I wouldn't bet on him not showing up for this series. Wall...well like I said earlier, he usually turns into a turnover machine when he plays us since he likes to drive and kick, which plays to the strength of our defense. Otherwise, he can score and is an excellent distributor of the ball when on point.

I expect this to be a tight matchup, but I think we steal one early in WSH and finish this in Game 5. I don't see us losing at home to them (or to anyone for that matter). Wouldn't be surprised if it does go six games though.

I was also worried about the quick turnaround as far as the fans go, early afternoon game with only 24 hours of notice (though there were some limited general admission gm 1/gm 7 tickets after gm 5) but after the way we played last night I'll be surprised if it isn't another sellout.
