Panthers Go Defense Again

Don't know enough about Thompson to comment.

But, you have to trust that the Panthers know good defensive talent.

Apparently we visited with him 3 times. The last two defensive players that we showed that much interest in were Luke Kuechly, and Star Lotulelei... who we also visited with 3 times each.

People's problem with Shaq was they just don't know how he fits in the NFL. They said he could potentially be a very unique piece with a creative defensive coordinator. Apparently we're pretty high on him and have some sort of idea on how we want to use him.

Luxury pick that is for sure. I like the player but was a hybrid linebacker really worth a 1st rounder? It must have been their bpa on the board. Better than reaching for a need which is what saints did with Peat.

Depends on how they are going to use the hybrid player. he is a pure athlete. I like that.

Lemme guess, the ONLY decent pick in the first round by NFCS teams was the Falcons?rolleyes.gif

Reaching for a need? Peat will have a role on this team, and we definitely needed depth at tackle, because Bryce Harris is terrible and Streif is aging, but unless someone slides to guard, this wasn't a reach for a need. We have two good tackles.

This was strictly picking the best player on their board. They wanted to move up for defense but couldn't get it done. Glad they stayed true to their board instead of reaching for Dupree.

I can see someone sliding to guard. It would sure up the middle more. Something Brees has to have. This kid is so big he can roll rushers around Brees and let Brees step up. Something Brees loves to do. Worse case is you got more depth and thats not a bad thing.

Payton said none of the tackles will play guard. The only one who's ever played guard is Streif. When the pick was first made I figured Armstead would slide inside, but he's a little thin and I think would struggle with the heavier DTs.

It just seems like depth at tackle and if he beats out Streif, all the better.

If an OT is the BPA when we pick, we will. If a DE is the BPA, we'll take that DE. We used free agency to fill needs. We're getting the best talent we can no matter what position they play. Post-draft free agency and training camp cuts for anything we feel a need at.
