Ok, Sell Me On Beasley

Recommended Posts

Think Jamal Anderson at #8. Big frame, good against the run, no sacks. Always the last guy to move at the snap.

Vic Beasley is nothing like that. First moving off the snap, great reactions, slender with great athleticism. Going to be a sack monster.

STRENGTHS Explosive athlete who's always first off the snap. True edge bender who can torque hips and shoulders to turn corner. Has ankle flexion to dip and slalom around corner at difficult angles to block. Former running back with quick feet and fluid hips. Able to change directions and burst to target. Possesses potentially lethal spin move, but doesn't use it enough. Primarily a hand-in-dirt rusher but has played standing, too. Able to drop into space. Solid instincts and outstanding closing burst. Quick hands to swat initial punch. Hands will get even better and could become a major weapon with more coaching. Can embarrass tackles who lunge and miss.

WEAKNESSES High cut with narrow waist and thin legs. Needs to add more bulk. Unlikely to convert speed to power against NFL tackles. Wins with athleticism on majority of his sacks. Rarely transitions from speed rush to spin as an instinctual pass-rush counter. Lacks ideal arm length. Too often content to stay blocked if pass rush stalls out. Needs to shed blocks more consistently against run. Good football character, but scouts are concerned about a lack of alpha-dog tenacity. DRAFT PROJECTION Round 1 SOURCES TELL US "He's pretty much what you are looking for if you are a 3-4 team. I think he can play inside or outside because he moves so well. Out of the top-rated outside 'backers, he's the best, in my opinion." -- AFC defensive coordinator

"Between the two Clemson linebackers (Vic Beasley and Stephone Anthony), they really put on a show (at the NFL Scouting Combine). Beasley is going high." -- AFC defensive coordinator NFL COMPARISON Bruce Irvin BOTTOM LINE

Projects as 3-4 outside linebacker. Considered one of the best pure edge rushers in the draft, but needs more sophistication to his approach. Has speed and explosion to become an absolute menace for a creative defensive coordinator. High-impact talent, but needs to crank up competitive nature in order to reach his potential. Teams privately gushed about his ability to carry speed at the combine to go along with his additional weight.

He grew up a Falcon fan in adairsville Ga humble kid who loves football with no off the field issues....

On the field has killer first step like Abraham and finishes pursuit doesn't whiff on QBs, has a knack for causing fumbles too, has several solid moves and film showed him setup ol players over several plays in a series where he baited them into situations... add weight before combine benched 35 reps most of any dine man this year and top 5 for dline man in past 3 years... by way all those other dine man where bigger interior lineman that didn't come close to a 4.53 40.... not bad for a undersized guy who want be strong enough against run????

The run defense questions are more technique and reaction not physical for him I'm sure quinn can help there

I can't. He's a good prospect with some great measurable numbers, and some very significant questions about his game. I'm ambivalent about the choice. I hope he's what his true believers claim he is. I see someone much different than that. He's going from a league where fast can be good enough, to a league where everybody's fast. I worry what else he's bringing to the table.

No... just about the same as Cartersville, but without a Wal-Mart.

that's cold. Vic is my stepdads cousin. There are a lot of athletes from Cartersville and Adairsville that can play. Football, baseball... Don't be fooled. Vic comes from a long line of athletes. He's the best, but Adairsville people will tell you many who never made it.
