FalconBlood
I wanted us to get the bum, Roddy White, off our team. Another bust. Let's get a replacement, i said. He isn't good enough. He is garbage. He is a drama. ...He is now my favorite Falcon ever. And is undoubtedly one of the single greatest Falcons ever.Do NOT give up on players who have the ability. We have many. People already writing Southward off, unwise. People assuming Freeman simply can't, unwise. Holmes will never get it together, unwise. Konz is trash even in a scheme that fits him better, unwise. Toilolo is garbage and played better at RT than TE, unwise. Hageman gets fat and doesn't want it, unwise. Lest I even say, Biermann can't help this team, unwise. This team is full of players that can grow individually and excel in new schemes. Not listed before, Alford, Worrilow, Shembo, Bartu, Maponga, Goodman... Players who can take the next step. I will be rooting for that development. As we go into the draft tomorrow. Have faith in your new staff, even if they don't draft a replacement for a position, and believe that some of your currently disliked players may someday soon become your favorites, because it happened to me. AF89
A little bit different thoughBack then he had the talent but no heart (or maybe more fairly, the work ethic & knowledge)Now he's got all those things in spades but he's older and it's his talent that's slipping. But he wouldn't be the 1st receiver to get by on football smarts and moxy and have a 1000 yard type season. And with a guy like Julio across from him and Matt throwing him the ball I'm not counting him out of anything just yet.
Dem Birds
People are even writing Roddy off now. I actually noticed earlier in a picture posted that he looks like he trimmed down some. His abdomen had been a bit bulky the last few years (not fat though) but he looks leaner. I think the new staff has refocused him.
Snafu
Roddy has never relied on his physicality to put up numbers, he just runs some **** good routes and has an understanding of what Matt wants to do.The only thing that has held Roddy back the last 2 years is the injuries. If he stays healthy, he'll go 1200 yards and 8TD's easy.
quotemokc
would of had 1000 yards easy if he hadn't missed 2 games, not to mention he is our biggest red zone threat

natod12
Along with the injuries I wondered if his brother's death right before the season affected his play some
Tuggle'2
Along with the injuries I wondered if his brother's death right before the season affected his play someI believe his drop off last year had more to do with his brother and mental state then anything else. Roddys not done in the least.

aerosmith67
good to see your tuggle, will you be in chat for the draft?Having had several family members murdered like Roddy's brother was through gun violence it's not something that leaves your head right away. Even doing something you love, you can focus because your mind drifts back. It's a hard thing to overcome I think about it a lot, just not every day like I used to. Back to the OP topic, I think he's right there are several young players that will be interesting to watch under a new staff/program. There's a reason these guys made the NFL and it's not by luck. My coach in college always referred to these stats and they're true.. It will be interesting to see if the new staff can pull more out of players that haven't lived up to expectations. Joe Horn and Coach Robiskie did wonders for Roddy, lets see if it happens again.
gazoo
I bring this point up all the time, about how the fans wanted to cut Roddy White and Patrick Kerney after their second seasons after convincing themselves they were both worthless busts that would never amount to anything, only to have both players break out bigtime in their 3rd seasons. The fact is, many players break out in their 3rd seasons and there can be many reasons they *appear to the untrained eye, aka as armchair GM* to have no talent but end up being very good players. Some could care a less, they just want something to bit$% about.Revisionist history helps many modify their positions on Roddy and Kerney stating "well, I always knew he had the talent but_______" which is mostly nonsense. I was in huge flame wars with people about giving Roddy White another season after that second year and I don't recall a single poster saying they knew he had the talent, all they did was vent about what a bust he was, proclaimed he'd never amount to anything, had the worst hands in the NFL and demanded we cut him. My argument was concentration problems can make it appear a WR has poor hands and I was going to give him into his 3rd season before making any declarations of being a bust. In fact, I give most players into their 3rd seasons before drawing any conclusions on their NFL fate.
