I don't think they take Mariota either. Still a possibility that he goes #2 though to Cleveland, San Diego, Jets, somebody. I would be surprised if he doesn't go before we pick, but we have seen QBs drop before.

I think Whisenhunt/Titans are content with Mettenberger over Mariota based on the system they run.

This would push Leonard and Fowler down closer to us. With the Titans taking a wr, that could change the picks up big time.

It doesn't change the draft at all. If Mariota somehow doesn't go at 2, he will at 3 or 4 by way of trade. Cooper was also always going before 8, so it changes nothing

Titans have something in play for Phillip Rivers, so they should take the best receiver.

if Titans get Rivers, then they won't have the #2 pick to select Amari Cooper.

If Rivers deal goes down, I believe they will swap 1st round picks.

# 2 pick = 2,600pts

#17 pick = 950pts

difference = 1,650pts = #6 pick in the draft

heck, Chargers might have to give up more than just Rivers and #17 pick to get the #2 pick as other teams want that pick to take Mariota. Of course the ace-in-the-hole for Bolts is they have Rivers and Titans probably want him badly.

It changes the fact that Williams could last until 3, Fowler to 4, making trading up for either (if we're so inclined) cheaper.

The valuation for a Rivers/#2 trade is ALL OVER THE PLACE. I was talking with a buddy about it yesterday. He thought Rivers and a 3rd for #2 is what will happen...but he felt that the Rivers side was stronger. I thought Rivers+17 = 2. I've heard others state 2+? = Rivers.

Such a weird trade....I have no idea what I would expect the trade to involve.

You have to put yourself in Bolts shoes - if they give up Rivers, they have to get the QB of the future back in the deal - otherwise it is a PR nightmare. Even though Rivers only has one year left on deal, Bolts could still franchise him two years thereafter - at that point, his career would be over or almost over - so Rivers does not have a lot of "hand" in this deal.

Here is my guess:

Bolts Trade:

Phillip Rivers

#1-017 pick

2nd round pick in 2016

Titans Trade:

#1-002 pick (which will be used by Bolts to select Marcus Mariota)

Done...

see, what I am hearing is it will take the #2 pick plus others to get Rivers. Why would chargers give anything with Rivers? They are trading a top 5-7 QB for an unkown rookie. Even with him not looking to sign, they can make him play this year, then tag and trade him for a haul after the season. SD doesnt have to cave at all here.

Rivers could walk after this year though.....if they franchise him, he retires. No big deal for him.

I get how it works for the Chargers....what I don't have a good grasp on is how the Titans would value Rivers. On one hand, 3+ years of a Top 10 QB in the league is pretty awesome. On the other hand, that QB is 34, will need ~$20m per year and isnt a long term solution.

IDK....I could see Rivers bringing back a 1st and a 2nd on the open trade market...but I could also see him being included with 17 to balance 2.

Glad I'm not making the deal...

Check out @jwyattsports's Tweet: https://twitter.com/jwyattsports/status/592698861665267712

Reads:I see USC's Leonard Williams to #Titans in a lot of mock drafts. He's a great player, but I don't see that happening.

Then in comments reads from a fan:@jwyattsports thanks Jim. who in your opinion is most likely if no mariota and no trade down?

Then he replys: bigger needs. Cooper.
