Chris Polk Is A Fa

Eagles rescinded their RFA tender to RB Chris Polk.
Polk will become a free agent, making him available to sign with any team. With DeMarco Murray, Darren Sproles and Ryan Mathews ahead of him, Polk wasn't worth his $1.54 million RFA tender. 25-year-old Polk should draw interest as a short yardage specialist. Apr 24 - 5:05 PM

I know that a number on here wanted him, and I was interested when he came out in 2012.

I was adamant that trading for him was a waste of a pick, and I still hold to that, but now that he's a FA, I'd be interested in taking a look.

Definitely something worth checking out. I think they are focused on the draft now. If we can't fsnag the RB we want in the draft, he'll definitely be getting a glance after the draft.

I'd rather cover all our bases and just get him now. Minimize the risk of us missing on a RB only to have him (or anyone) already signed away.

I get that, I just wonder if the team is taking their eye off the draft.

Yeah I agree most teams are probably going to take a wait and see approach at this point, would just be refreshing to take some initiative to free the draft up as much as possible.

Depends on how much he's asking for. If we can get him for little in the way of guarantees and less that one million a season, then sure, but if he wants what Antone is making this season, then I might be inclined to wait.

Eh, why? We have tons of free money, we can afford to risk a mill or so on a guy like Polk. Guarantee it if that's what it takes.

They've been very smart with their signings this season. They're not going to just throw around money willy nilly. It's been made clear that they'll only pursue guys that meet their specific requirements, and only at their price. They won't spend more than they think that player is worth for their system. How much money that we have is irrelevant.

So just let the cap space rot away pointlessly? I like being smart with our money, but there's not many options for us to spend it all on anymore. If we can use it to help our team, we should at this point. It doesn't necessarily need to be Polk, but if they think he has any chance of helping us, why not?

Cap space never just rots away.

The money isn't going anywhere. If they were going to overspend for FAs then they would have. They made it clear that they have their price, and if the FA wants more, then they're welcome to go elsewhere. You can get a bigger payday if you prove yourself in this system.

You can't just carry over however much you want and use it next year... If we go into this season without using much more cap space we'll literally have wasted quite a bit of it.

Yes you can. All money not used in a year, can be rolled over to the following year.

In theory, but that never works out man. You know as well as I that there will be wasted money at the end of the year, there always is. Why not spend just one million of that on a guy we think could help us? Because we don't want to spend an extra 500K or so? That's not the way to do it imo. The risk of losing such little money is so insignificant.
