TCU LB Paul Dawson recently visited Flowery Branch and the Falcons, league source says. He previously worked out for Falcons on campus

Dawson is a baller. Tough as nails. His speed wont be an issue imo. At the combine it look like he pulled up before finishing. Also, Quinn's system focuses on players' strengths. He'll be put in the right position.

I think Dawson will be this year's Vontaze Burfict.

Not as in going undrafted, but as in having a bad combine and putting up underwhelming numbers but still go on to become one of the better LBs in the NFL.

i thought burfict was a 4th rd pick.. he went undrafted?

Who says they are passing on Gregory? But passing on someone at 8 is a lot different than passing on them in the 3rd or 4th round

I tend to disagree. Nobody ever got anywhere without taking a risk. The issues that Gregory pose are more than treatable.

They said Dawson had an issue with the coaching staff. I dont see that happening here.

Burfict was actually in shape. Dawson isn't. Dawson has no excuse for his performance at the combine unless he is just way out of shape. I think we might be blinded by the Daryl Washington TCU effect more than Dawson actually being worth a ****.

Didn't he pull a hamstring or something during his first 40 run at the combine?

Burfict came to his combine out of shape as well.

That was why he ran a 5.09 forty time.

Nope he was just in really bad shape.

Was next to last in the vertical jump amongst LBs and only bench pressed 225lbs 16 times.

Edit: I thought you was talking about Burfict lol, yeah, Dawson hurt his hamstring which caused him to pull up in the 40. He was out of shape as well though.

Yeah, Dawson hurt his hamstring.

I thought you were talking about Burfict but I thought about it before realizing that you were actually talking about Dawson.

I tried to edit my post to clarify the mix up before you responded.

No problem, I should have been clear. He may have been out of shape somewhat (comparatively) but I think people are blowing it out of proportion.

He's a baller. After watching some video & reading up on him; the word that keeps coming up is instincts. He has great instincts & his game speed is faster than his timed speed. A fast 40 time doesn't mean much if you don't know where to be or take bad angles to the ball. Dawson was always around the ball making plays.

Dawson put up some good numbers, but he is light for the middle and not really a killer athlete on the outside. Sorry, but I want more athletes. We lack athletes and I don't want to see another Curtis Lofton type. He may not be as stout, but Lofton had a bad combine and I think got into the 4.6s at his pro day. He was never more than ordinary.

Dawson is 10X better in coverage than Lofton, with just as good instincts in the run game. Don't think the comparison is a good one there. LB'ers need instincts more than anything, and Dawson has that in bundles.
