Daniel Jeremiah Mock Draft - April 21

Recommended Posts

I'm not saying it won't happen, but with 3 starting quality DT's already on the roster, why would anyone mock one to us early with all the other holes we have?

That's the whole thing about drafting for need. You are getting a guy one year removed from college. You should not expect from them what you do from a vet. There are 7 picks in the draft too. What would you rather draft at second? WR? TE? CB? FS? ILB? OG?

I've already posted my feeling towards trying to fix every hole in one offseason. You can't, nor should you try. That being said, DT is one of the positions I actually feel like we are deep at so it just doesn't make sense.

Having depth doesn't mean you are deep in talent though. At that position we have a lot of guys. I wouldn't say they are talented, or even that good. In the draft you have to get guys who will give you big time half decade production. I am not saying this will happen, but I can't wrap my mind around drafting a MLB in the second, when we have a LOT of guys there. I like getting a FS, just not really in this particular draft. I like getting a CB, but we have Trufant, Alford, Southward(?), Allen, Adams, and Mabin. RB would make me happy, but the board would cry themselves to sleep we didn't just wait until the UDFA, WR maybe. TE, sure. OG or OT...I guess.

I'm just saying. Any position at one or two is good with me, as long as they don't suck.

So draft the second round DT, let him sit on the bench and learn from Soliai, Babs, and Hageman until next year when we cut Babs or Paul and let him start. I don't hate that plan as much as I hate the thought of getting a RB at #8 but I like the idea of getting a guard, Safety, or RB with that pick since our depth in those positions are much poorer than our DT depth.

I like Grady Jarrett a lot. He'd be a "defensive tackle of the future" and a darn good one at that.

I get a Geno Atkins vibe from him. I was really pushing for Atkins back in 2010, and though I didn't expect him to be as good as he is; I knew he'd be better than a 5th round pick.

I don't care if we "already have Soliai, Babs, TJax, and Hageman." You grab the best player on your board in the second, and if that's Jarrett then that's cool! Besides, Babs most likely won't be here much longer and a Hageman-Jarrett duo in the middle for the long haul would be awesome!

As far as a DT, like the lineage.

Babs would only be 1.3 in dead money, wouldn't be impossible to cut him. They could also move on from TJax, although that would hurt the cap, but, if they decide it's better to hurt the cap than the team's chances on the field...

Would rather have a RB there myself-I completely agree that the Falcons need another RB, I just disagree it needs to be Gurley at 8 or AP in a trade. Get one 2nd or 3rd round. 4th at the latest.

Unless they think Wingo is a stud in waiting, which would scare me no end until it actually happened.

I get your point and we don't disagree on much but I just think that is oversimplified. Second round...ok. But IMO it would be absolutely ridiculous to get a RB that early. RB's are often injured. They have the shortest careers of any position, really good talent is often found in later rounds, and the Pats keep winning superbowls and haven't had a true game-changing RB in years. Just doesn't add up to me.
