5 Nightmare Scenarios For Teams Picking In Round 1 - Falcons Get Burned By Early Edge-Rusher Run

Falcons get burned by early edge-rusher run

The skinny: The Falcons have a screaming need for a pass rusher, and it appears they're in position to get a very promising one with the eighth overall pick. What if that appearance turns out to be deceiving, though? If Dante Fowler, Shane Ray and Vic Beasley go No. 3, 5 and 6, respectively, before theBears surprise everyone a bit and take Bud Dupreeat No. 7, suddenly the Falcons would be faced with a nightmarish choice. Do they take Randy Gregory, who failed an NFL Scouting Combine drug test, at No. 8 or pass and likely miss out on the top edge rushers?

I kinda think that's a real possibility..were dreadful thin at Safety to start with...I'd be great with that as first two rounds

Are we really? I think it's obvious our opinions aren't in line with Quinn and the coaches. Most thought Kroy should be gone and didn't see the value in bringing him back.

We've got Moore, Ish, Godfrey and Southward. That's not thin. That's pretty standard.

You calling ish, Godfrey and southward sure things? Southward may even become a cb. And, Moore is expensive and can't stay on the field.

I see a constantly injured expensive starter and 3 unknowns..but obviously I ain't Quinn lol

And training camp hasn't come yet. Some of these guys including Kroy could be gone.

Which btw if Kroy and our DEs are so good, why the clamor for a top shelf edge rusher? Let me rephrase this statement--got to have one at 8 stuff?

Taking Collins at 8 would be a huge mistake. He's not a elite prospect at all. Also projects more as a SS and a FS. I'd have no problem taking Gregory at 8 even if Ray and Dupree are on the board.

Doubt Southward and Godfrey are getting cut so it doesn't really matter how I feel about them. Ish is a solid guy. Allowed a passer rating of 87.5 over the second half of the season. That's the equivalent of Kyle Orton.

So, no, we aren't terribly thin right now. Southward isn't a corner until we replace him at safety. Just because Quinn said he was going to take a look at him at CB doesn't mean he's moving. Moore isn't getting cut.

"I see a constantly injured expensive starter and 3 unknowns" Is more of what you should have said. We aren't thin. We just aren't solidified, which I can fully agree with.

Oh no we end up with Randy Gregory who was a top 5 pick by most before a failed drug test? HOW WILL WE EVER MOVE ON

Gregory's problem likely isn't as simple as weed. Not going into it again, but there is an unconfirmed report that he needs the marijuana to control an anxiety disorder.

In this scenario most likely Williams or mariota go 2 and cooper white go 4 this leaves two of either white, or cooper and either mariota and Williams but let's be real if mariota goes 2 williams goes to one of those pass rush teams so for this to work we have a wr or mariota to choose from or trade down Cleveland would gladly give us 12 and 77 for mariota or white/cooper. to be honest Though in this scenario we could auction the pick between Cleveland, San diego, and Philly sell to the highest bidder. So in reality this could be the best thing that happens to us

We were reported to have tried to get Dee Ford and DeMarcus Lawrence last season. Ford wasn't going to happen but Lawrence was possible until the Cowboys, knowing we were desperate for the last decent rusher, traded in front of us and took him. If everybody knows your fallback option, you are susceptible to being stymied.

Lol I'll go with your revised statement

That could very well happen again this year IF we are unable to get a solid pass rusher at #8...if we can't get pass rusher at than several teams would assume that we would be looking at one with #42....same thing could happen again...

Fans would go nuts if we traded up from #42 for a "2nd tier" pass rusher...but that might be something the Falcons have to do if they don't get one at #8...

I'm really confident though that Beasley or Ray are going to be available at #8...

Not much of a nightmare scenario.

We would simply trade down and get an extra pick.
