What? No Thread Started About Winston's Civil Suit?

Apparently many of you are of the same belief that Winston has become the target of a cash grab by this girl, her parents, and an attorney, who all have dollar signs dancing in their pointed little heads.

I'm not gonna sit here and say he's innocent....or guilty, but there's been several investigations into her claim, none of which produced anything close to showing she was raped.

I will say this.....if this were the Cash Grab many believe it to be, it seems smarter to wait until after the draft to be able to collect as large of a settlement as possible.

On the other hand, her attorney knowing the NFL rookie salary cap will probably keep her from collecting the high dollar amount she and her parents would like, filing the suit exactly 2 weeks before the NFL draft could undoubtedly hurt his draft status and subsequent career, while still being able to get a tidy sum of money from him even if it were to go in front of a friendly jury. Either that, or they get him to agree to a settlement, just to shut them up.

Bucs officials say civil lawsuit filed against FSU QB Jameis Winston today will have no effect on their draft plans.

I see what you're saying but why would she be interested in hurting his career

she's a female. Not saying all females do it but it happens, especially with millionaires. This could even be a family move for all we know. She more than likely has no intentions on hurting his career but is looking to cash in

HeII hath no fury, like a woman scorned. You know that!wink.png

I have a feeling the Bucs will now select Mariota simply to keep from having to deal with the backlash of selecting him. They have hard enough time getting people in the seats without having numerous women's groups outside RayJay protesting every Sunday. If that's the case, look for Winston to drop like a 1000# anchor as other teams that know how much time and energy the Bucs put into vetting this kid, and then didn't select him, will run away from him as fast as they can.

On the other hand, the Bucs could go ahead and select him and thumb their noses at the Political Incorrectness (got that in there just for you DD) of doing so. In which case I applaud them.

Although I don't see them doing so, mainly because their claim that this civil suit doesn't affect their draft plans, is simply because they're going to say they always planned to take Mariota.

If that be the case look for the Bucs to stay irrelevant for years to come.rolleyes.gif

mm has arod potential. I wouldn't be so disappointed. I think at this point it would be the wise thing to do.

Mariota is nothing but a poor man's Cam Newton. In fact, I don't see him being anywhere as good as Newton, and that isn't what I want in a supposed franchise qb (no offense panther fans). If you're not taking Winston, trade the freaking pick!

exactly. It'll get to the point where he just pays them off and be done with it

Which is probably what will happen, but it's gonna cost the kid $millions if he drops outta the top 10, which he easily could if the Bucs pass.

Sounds like they are leaning towards Marcus now!? That's awesome, for me anyways. Haha.

That family, is all about the money now. She got embarrassed, for telling lies.. Now the family thinks money will make it better...

"This stunt was expected", Cornwell said in the statement, a copy of which Cornwell has forwarded to PFT. [The accusers] "false accusations have already been exposed and rejected six times. This time will be no different. Mr. Winston welcomes the opportunity to clear his name with the truth."

Yeah, this girl and her family are trying to make a quick buck. If I was Winston (knowing my innocence) I'd see them in court.

Absolutely! This girl and her parents have tried every way imaginable to keep this on the front page for a king sized Cash Grab.

I'm actually surprised that he hasn't agreed to pay her off already. It shows it for what it really is. GrandStanding for a big cash payout.

Knowing what we all know, if you were the GM JB, who do you take?

The QB that is more "pro ready", or the one who is as clean as a whistle off thw field?

IF I'm convinced of his innocence in all this, I thumb my noses at everyone and select Winston. But that's just me. I don't give two ***** about what fans are gonna say. If he's as good as I believe he can be, these people will STFU once he starts winning games and it all comes out in court what a money grab this whole thing was.

BUT, if I'm NOT convinced of his innocence, I make everyone believe I'm taking Mariota, then find the best trade partner I can find outta the Eagles, Browns, Jets & Chargers, or whatever team is hard up enough to part with three #1's and a #2 and wish Jameis all the best.

I say this because we don't know what the Bucs know. They've gone through probably the most exhaustive vetting ever of a college prospect. So if they DO take him, I trust that they believe his innocence, which is all that really matters in the long run. What we all believe doesn't matter.

Well it isn't the ideal way to enter the NFL. At minimun its a serious distraction to both him and the team, at worst its true and he's a major problem to his team and society in general. No one in this forum really knows what happened between them.

And if we're being honest here, as the #1 pick in the draft, teams cannot afford to miss at any level. He's a risk pick at this point, regardless of his talent.

Absolutely! But if the Bucs pick him they're counting on the reward being much greater than the risk. Bo Jackson anyone?

How about this little tidbit? Bo Jackson and Jameis Winston are both from the same town in Alabama. Mere coincidence, or

omen of whats to come.

I dunno, but after 39 seasons of pretty much inept drafting, I'm pretty much resigned to this being another draft blunder, no matter what they do with the pick. I'm simply expecting the worse (which is what Buc fans are programmed to do) and hoping for the best.
