What do you do about the LG position

  1. 1. What do you do about the LG position in the scenario that the Falcons have selected an edge rusher with their first selection

    • Let Hawley and Parsons Battle it out? (My fingers won't allow me to add Baker to that equation)
      3
    • Draft Ali Marpet with our 2nd round pick. Day 1 Starter
      15
    • Draft a guard in the 3rd or 4th round to battle with the Vets for a starting role
      24
    • Other
      11

assuming the 4 starters are J Matthews, Hawley, Asamoah, Schraeder

That leave 9 already on the roster

Stone, Konz, Person, Gunn, J Smith, Replogle interior

Sam Baker, Holmes, Fragel mostly OTs

these 9 wiii be in the mix for starting LG even if another FA is signed or a rookie is drafted.

so the options you ask us to choose from are extremely limited and make too many assumptions

see you assumed Stone or Konz is the center and I assumed Hawley is the center

If the first four rounds went like this, i wouldn't be upset:

1st pick - best edge rusher available

2nd pick - best OL available

3rd pick - best WR available

4th pick - best RB available

i don't think RT is as settled as some do, and given the injuries the OL has sustained the last two seasons, depth across the OL is a good thing. Draft is deep for WR and RB, so i expect there to be solid talent in the middle rounds. There won't be an egde rusher past #25 that can help the Falcons in 2015. Whether they trade down a few spots or stay at #8, ATL will almost certainly take a OLB/DE with their first round pick. If they don't, they will have to trade back up into the 1st round to get who they want - which means likely losing valuable 2nd-4th round picks that are desperately needed to create some depth on offense.

Other - sign Stefen Wisniewski, a dam good center who has also been a solid LG in the past. He's only 26 years old.

Draft Marpet, Jackson or Tomlinson, hopefully in the third.

Let Wisniewski, Brawley, Stone, Konz, Person, Gunn and the rook battle it out for the OC and LG positions. May the best two men win.

Don't let Sackmaker near an OG spot.

I would be very uncomfortable waiting until after the 2'nd round to get a Guard. If we do that, I hate to say it but I think Baker is our starting LG.

See post #8.

By the way, Marpet and Jackson are projected in the 2nd or 3rd. Kouandjio in the 3rd. OGs tend to go later than projected.

Also, never forget we went to a Super Bowl with Calvin Collins at LG.

They go late, but if you want the really good ones, particularly in this draft, I'd rather a 2'nd than a 3'rd pick was protecting Ryan.

If we get Wis that would be fine, but not sure if that's likely or not. I don't like who we have on the roster, and I really want to see a great LG protecting Ryan. No more average guys.

Asamoah was drafted in the third. He protected Ryan pretty well.

I think just in general it's easier to find RG's later in the draft but good LG'S are usually taken bit higher. #2 is their really a plethora of LG prospects in this draft I don't think so. But I having decided On what we should do just giving my perspective on your post

Karst 41 sez:

Draft a lineman in any round and he will beat our Vets for the starting job.

Since yall so quickly forgot that the only line that is worse than Atlanta's

D'Line; is Atlanta's O Line.

annnnd donnt you forgit it!

I love Kouandjio in a power scheme, just not zone, dude won't be able to pull fast enough at the NFL level. But I've warmed up on him a lot, he'll make some team happy.

You guys putting baker back at LT... wat? Mind boggles

Nope,, TD will convince Little Shanny to do just that and put Jake at RT.

Now just draft a Scherff and put him in at RG and that makes the Best Strong side in the league.

But that draft aint gonna happen, is it.

Therefore you see how convoluted and inept our GM is when it comes to O Lines or

D lines for that matter.

Still got hate on for TD even though we found out we went more in the direction of what the coaches wanted compared to what TD wanted.

Its Quinns turn now. Im hoping he chooses better than what Smithy wanted.
