Forget Draft Position, What Players Do You Like Most And Why?

Recommended Posts

Too many drafts

Let's just talk players. Not about whether we'll get them, just guys you like.

For me it's Randy Gregory. The guy is a faster, more flexible, and more consistent Clowney Clone. He played as a run defender and just happened to get sacks. If we draft him and turn him loose he'll wreak havoc.

Also I like Jay Ajayi. Fast, powerful, and a receiver out the backfield. Not sure about his pass protection, buy as a RB he's a stud.

Last one is Devin Funchess. Huge target that goes up and grabs jump balls. With the way Matt like big receivers he could be a major weapon. Plus he has under-rated speed. Just wish he declared as a TE. He'd be FAR and away the best in the draft.

Who do you like & why?

I like Danny Shelton a behemoth in the middle that is constantly getting pressure into the face of the QB. He also has this energy and excitement that looks like hes just having a blast all the time. Energy like that is infectious and our defense needs some of that energy.

These are the four positions with the biggest holes to me. Here are my favorite players at those positions, in order. I'd take four of them with the eighth pick:

Edge Rusher - Dante Fowler, Vic Beasley, Randy Gregory

RB - Todd Gurley, Jay Ajayi, David Johnson, David Cobb, Matt Jones

OG - A.J. Cann, Laken Tomlinson, Tre Jackson, Ali Marpet, Arie Kouandjio

FS - Cody Prewitt, Kurtis Drummond, Durrell Eskridge, Adrian Amos

The guy I would love to come away with and I don't think anyone agrees with me is Tevin Coleman. I believe he'll be better than any other back including Gurley. He can run between the tackles, run people over, catch and he has a top gear that the other top tier backs don't have.

My favorite player in this draft is anyone EXCEPT Todd Frikkin' Injury-Prone Peg-Leg Girlie.

I'm sick to death of hearing about him. I hope we don't draft him for several valid reasons, but also just to pee in the cornflakes of all you incessant Girlie-ites.

Good idea to bring him up then. Because when I don't want to talk about something, the first thing that I do is tell everybody my opinion on it.

Williams Can play anywhere on the Dline and has been and should continue to be impressive

Devante Parker When the ball is in the air he is money in the bank. Will shine in a WCO

Bud Dupree He is a force and in a couple of years will probably end up being the player every one wished they had drafted. Yeah there is work to do but he likes to hit and a great motor. Get him in the right spot and the sky is the limit.

Sherff I like attitude at the Oline and Scherff has plenty plus he is well coached and has talent.

Perryman What can I say really I love thumpers in the middle.

Derron Smith IMO very underrated this year was a top prospect coming into the year. He likes to compete though so would get caught out of position this year trying to do too much on a bad Fresno defense.

Conley going higher than people think and rightfully so. He did not get a lot of looks at UGA but when he did the guy was good.

Danielle Hunter all the he did not produce nonsense aside. He played in the SEC and rushing the passer is secondary. He lead the SEC as a Jr. with 17 tackles for a loss. He is strong physical fast and athletic. He played on the line and in space and he has a chance to be a very good one.

Austin Shepherd Another underrated guy. OT at Bama that never quit and got the job done a overachiever with attitude that will start out at OG but could end up making someone a nice RT

Blake Bell a QB converted to TE that loved to block in the red zone and appears to have good hands a project but I am intrigued.

There are some others but these guys really jump out at me for various reasons.

Chris Conley, WR, UGA.

He was a solid college player, but will be an even better pro. He has the physical stats needed to play on Sunday, and his off-the-field qualities (intelligence, demeanor, work ethic) will make him a GREAT representative of any team that drafts him.

He won't shine like some of the diva WRs, but he also won't shame like they tend to do.

Will be a quality pick in the 3rd round, and a steal in the 4th.

Bryce Petty-He is the next Stafford/Brees type QB. Id be terrified if ARZ drafted him. Scary to think he'd be launching them to Fitz,Brown, and Flyod.

Jaelen Strong-He might just fall to our 2nd, and if he does id pick him up in a heartbeat. He is a big WR who has the production to match. Just an all around solid wideout

AJ Johnson-He is the best MLB in the draft. If he can somehow find a way to get outta trouble is be delighted to bring him in as a late round or UDFA

Love him. Him and David Johnson are the main guys I'd hope we would come away with outside of the big two.

All in all, for pass rusher, it's got to be Beasley. He has the smartest game I've seen in ages out of a college DE. Absurd athlete on top of that and clean as a whistle off the field. Just a monster. One of my favorite evaluators of talent called him "John Abraham out of college, but with better technique." Who would NOT want Abe back? Seriously.

Also, I mentioned him already, but I'm re-watching the Senior Bowl now and seriously...watch David Johnson and try not to fall in love with him. His jump cuts are ridiculous. Got most of his touches in the first quarter but he looked phenomenal, Mayock compares him to Leveon Bell mid-game. It's not too hard to find the game on Dailymotion, PM me if you want some hints. I just think everyone should see what he looks like against NFL caliber players.

Players I especially 'like' (doesn't mean I think we'll draft any of them, I just like their character and have some personal connection to some of them)::

Vic Beasley (my mom taught him in grade school...comes from a good family that kept him grounded...great kid, obviously has the skills we need to fill Quinn's defense.

Davis Tull/Derrick Lott (I've watched them both play 2-3 seasons in Chattanooga, both are good enough to be rotational players in NFL)

Chris Conley (skills to be a #2 WR) very articulate and impressive young man. And as we now all know, very fast.

Mike Davis, RB....tough as nails downhill runner and very underrated player who could be a nice compliment to Freeman

Taiwan Jones, ILB, Michigan State....very under-the-radar type of player known as a leader who I think would fit in well with Quinn's vision of what a falcon defense should look like, and would be an excellent special teams player too early on.

Maxx Williams TE...don't know if he will be there in round 2, but if he is, we should grab him. Comes from great family bloodlines, and I think would click with Matt Ryan from day 1. .

Really liking Grady Jarrett at the moment.

1405043923000-jarrett.jpg

* Son of former Falcon Jessie Tuggle.

* Was described by AJ Cann as the toughest DL he's had to face.

* Wrestling background

* Dude hasn't missed a game for injury ever.

Height: 6'1

Weight: 304 Pounds

Arm Length: 32 3/8"

Hands: 10"

40 Yard Dash: 5.06 sec

Bench Press: 30 Reps

Vertical Jump: 31"

Broad Jump: 112"

3 Cone:: 7.37 sec

20 Yard Shuttle: 4.56 Sec

SPARQ score: 129.1 (~90th percentile of NFL athletes)

Plays with great natural leverage, very powerful especially for his size. He needs to work on his consistency with his getoff, due to his short(ish) arms. If he gets into the OLineman first, it's over though. Like I mentioned, his arms are shorter than you'd like, but they are around the same length as Aaron Donald and Geno Atkin's. Very good athlete, SPARQ score is the highest of any interior defensive lineman. Has a great motor, doesn't quit on plays. Flashes some impressive change of direction skills too. He played nose in college but in the NFL he'd be a good 3 tech. Due to his height, he's not gonna deflect many passes.

He should be on the Falcons radar as a potential replacement to Babs in the rotation. Should remind Quinn a lot of the Seahawks 2013 3rd rounder Jordan Hill, which is where I see Jarrett going as well.

Scares the QB off his spot with a decent power rush, flashes COD skills. Beasley got there sooner though.

Quickly sniffs out a screen.

Just a nice display of power.

Display of his disruptive ability.

I think the one guy I really settled on is Zach Zenner, out of South Dakota State. I uad never heard of him until Gil Brandt went on a 20 minute rant about him. Then I went to watch a tape of Shane Ray.

They did a scouting report of Zenner and Ray: Zenner first. They broke down what he did well and what he doesn't. He's shifty, but not elusive. He runs upright with power, then lowers his pads effectively in traffic. He has fantastic football speed. Best of all, he is a patient runner with great vision, that sets up and reads blocks like a seasoned pro. He is a one-cut and go back. I think he would be a tremendous value in the 6th or 7th round, and will quite likely out-produce most backs taken ahead of him.

I like Tomlinson and Eskridge alot too, but am afraid both will taken sooner than we will want to address those positions.

Thing about it. I'm excited about this draft. I sincerely doubt we get anyone (ANYONE) I like a whole lot. So, basically I'm just piddling around and enjoying myself with the whole process.
