High Hopes For The Falcons This Season

Recommended Posts

I have high hopes for our team this season. We will be back to being competitive in every game including playoffs. Yes I said playoffs. We will beat whoever we play in the playoffs. I cant wait man. I appreciate every player, coach, fan, and paper jockey on this team. We are in this together boys. It isn't going to be easy but itis going to be fun.

The entire NFC will fear the Falcons. Trust me.

Love it. Sky's the limit right now, anybody that can't be optimistic at this time of the year needs to take a break.

I'm not at all optimistic.

Quinn is frightfully inexperienced. He only has 2 years of experience as a dc at the pro level. He has zero experience running a program at any level.

The free agent class was pretty bare. There wasn't much that was available realistically that would help out our defense.

I don't think the pass rushers that will be impact players will be there at #8.

We don't have a LG. Our only hope will be drafting one that performs as a rookie. Why was Blalock let go? He even had experience in a zbs that preceded the Smitty regime.

What I anticipate happening this year is a more confident team, a more disciplined team and a more aggressive team. How many wins does that translate to I am not sure. But, with a strong run game, improved defense (at least a ten place improvement) I can see us going in with a shot at 9 wins. But really, the sky is the limit.

Same thing was said last year. I'm not having an expectations. Anytime the Falcons are hyped up or expected to do great they fall right on their faces. I'm keeping my expectations low. Hopefully we can at least reach .500.

I'm not going to say I have high hopes per se...but I am hopeful for improvement across the board. I like Quinn's approach so far and the focus he's putting on getting the players individually better. The game tapes he gave each player of them selves highlighting their strengths and weaknesses could prove to be invaluable and something I've never heard from the last staff. Things that give me pause is the FA haul. Wish we had of made a splash or 2 in FA especially considering we still have almost $20 million in cap space. Hoping that everyone stays healthy or the FA class will look even worse than it does now

The Falcons may go to the playoffs this year, but they won't go very far. The defense was HORRIBLE last year, and it will take more than one year to fix. In 2 years, I would like to see a top 10 Falcons D.

i can agree with that, but this even this years defense will be fun to watch; especially our corners Truant and Alford. Cant wait to see them in action.

Defensive minded coach? wasn't Smitty a defensive coordinator when he came here? What we need more than anything is an upgrade in talent, which is what we didn't get, so far. Jake will be better, but the lg spot may be weaker, so that could be a wash. The running game may be better but we don't know how big of a leap the young fella from FSU will take. The receiving group could take step back without harry, especially if Julio goes down. The defensive line was mediocre at best, with the exception of Reshede, they won't be better. The linebackers, however, should be better with the additions made. I don't know how you guys are Calculating a 10 to 15 place jump for our defense? From 32 to 25 I can see

Or Quinn could turn into a mastermind HC, we could draft a LG that severely outperforms Blalock, Hankerson / a rookie could be much better than HD, and the scheme change could make our entire D-Line play better. You have no idea, the only difference between your hypothetical and mine is I'm not being glum at the most optimistic time of the entire NFL year. Why subject yourself to stressing over the worst case scenario, or more poignantly, subjugating the rest of us to that negativity, as many on this board do (not necessarily directed at you)?

I don't understand all the pessimism. No, I'm not screaming we will win the Super Bowl, but c'mon folks .. we play in the NFC South. Somebody is going to win the division, and I definitely think it is us. Matt Ryan is in his prime. Our offensive line will be improved with Jake Matthews healthy and the ZBS. Our defense has improved it's personnel and gotten younger and more dependable, and we still have a top pick in the draft. We will finally have a young and therefore improved running game. We have an aggressive offensive coordinator and a high energy, defensive minded head coach ready to make a name for himself. And we still have plenty of cap room/money to spend. Finally, we have the easiest schedule this upcoming year in the entire NFL.

That is more than I can say for any other NFC South team. Play well, stay healthy, and grow together as a unit. A playoff win is absolutely a reasonable goal this year.

Well said. Glad your aboard.

Someone mentioned that this season we were 21 points from being 10-6. I am not sure if that is true or not, but if it is, then I do not believe we are far off. We played guys out of position and had some terrible clock management/ play calls. Our defense is not super different from what we were suppose to play last year. Shanahan has turned chicken **** into chicken salad at the RB and QB position. Now he has a very talented QB in Matt Ryan. A lot of the guys on this team have played the ZBS or have been said to fit the ZBS slightly better than last years scheme.

I am not the happiest with what we have done at the LEO position, but I do feel confident that we are on the correct path. We are also in the NFC South and our sorry ***** went 5-1(I believe) last season. Clearly our guys are willing to fight for Quinn considering how many showed up for voluntary practices. We are already talking about what the guys do correct and what they need to fix this far ahead of the TC/preseason.
